around november i went for the black thing, though now its turned into a black with like dark brown highlights.  The thing is, my  hair FREAKED and started falling out like crazy, i'm afriad to touch up my roots black.

I want to dye the top blonde and keep the bottom how it is, but i'm pretty sure i have to strip it.  If my hair freaked so much with the black, is it going to be even worse stripping it?

does anyone have any ideas of what i could do?  and if it helps my hair is medium long and not as thick asit used to be.

and i am getting this done professionally but i'm in between people and need some extra advice.

if the blonde isn't gonna work then give me some other colors or tips please!

Exactly how much hair was falling out?  Do you straighten/blow dry your hair a lot?  My friend used to dye her hair dark purple and her hair started falling out; but she also blowed it dry, straightened it, and washed it with shampoo EVERY day - she she basically had it coming to her.  She had her hair dyed similar to her natural brown and let her hair grow out- now it's thick and healthy again.

To get the roots blonde you'd have to bleach it, and that is NOT a good idea if your hair has been weakened just by hair dye.  What is your natural hair colour?  If it's dark then my advice is to grow it out and get that thickness back..

But if your hair's blonde or light I think you should get a professional to look at the condition of your hair and see if it is healthy enough to be chemically treated further.

And usually if your hair is dark you notice how much you SHED a whole lot more. I know, since being blonde u don't notice it as much but when I had dark and even my braids I freaked thinking my hair was falling out. It was just the natural process. Normal stuff... and yes blowdrying and washing it makes it BREAK OFF not literally fall out.

My hair is naturally a light brown.  Of course, it has been natural at all for the past 3 years.  I do straighten it, but not everyday and i never blow dry, though i do condition and shampoo everyday.  I guess i didn't realize it could be bad.

it might be the shedding thing too...but it has definitly gotten a lot worse.

I really don't want to grow it out because then the roots are going to KILL me, which is why i was thinking of stripping it and the such just so that it can grow out and not be noticable.

thanks for your help!

Stripping it is a better idea than bleaching definitely.  Colorfix and Goldwell System colour removers are gentler on the hair than most.  But you'll be left with a lot of red in your hair, so you'll still need to dye over again...
