Shrink Tubes - Heat or Hot Air?

   I'm new here, but a longtime fan and workplace admirer.

I'm thinking about switching to shrinkies (shrink tubes) for my extensions over microlinks (which nearly detroyed my hair).

So I'm thinking about doing the shrink tube method, and was wondering,
what if I shrank them with hot air, instead of the shrinkie wand? 

My hypothesis is that using hot air, the tube might shrink evenly
around the natural hair and extension, instead of being
flattened/shrunk together. 

Whaddayathink?  Also, how can I condition my hair with shrinkies in? I'm curious about how well it might work.
