Hi everyone. I was looking for a little help

Yesterday I went to a rather nice salon to get my hair
highlighted. My hair was in decent shape, my last highlights
were done 8 months ago.

I explained to the colorists what I wanted and what it was about
my hair I didnt like. He understood....my highlights were too
washed out and pale giving me more of a 'gray' and 'tired' look

He suggested a 'wheat' color as well as an additional color to
add some 'warmth' I agreed that I needed a little extra spark to
the color so it wouldnt look so lifeless and pale

He proceeded to foil. I went under the dryer. He took me to the
sink and pulled out the foils. He gave my hair a quick wash and
said.."ok, now we are going to do the toner"

He hadnt mentioned toner earlier
So, we did that, I got washed again and dried

My hair came out very brassy as far as I'm concerned. I was
looking for a natural color. I wasnt looking for anything too light
(I'm a dark blonde going mousey color) but something that
gave my hair life

My hair (to me) looks almost strawberry blonde. A fake color as
far as I'm concerned

I am thinking of calling the salon back but I am afraid the only
way to fix this would leave my hair darker...almost the same
mousey color that I had going in

Any suggestions?

I'd let it fade and try a more neutral toner next time.

The toner he put in was to tone down the brassiness. There is
nothing there to fade.....He didnt 'add' the orange. My hair just
'lifted' to orange

I doubt it was his intent to make my highlights any redder. I
think when he took the foils out he was surprised by the level of
lift or something and tried to fix it quick quick. But it didnt work
and the orange is still there

Lets see if this works...

If so, the color of the photo is pretty close to how it looks. Some
strands are just ORANGE! Not a color you'd find normally

I finally got the link to work and that really looks RED/ORANGE to me...

Have you tried toning it down with a demi permanent in a medium ash blonde?  Strand test first.

Wow! I checked out your picture Rebekah, my hair looks a LOT like yours
did

A lot of people have said my hair 'looks nice' and In some ways it does.
He did a nice job of placing the highlights, and my hair does look a lot
brighter. However, that orange color just doesnt look natural. To me it
screams 'I had a so-so bleach job'

He is going to see me tomorrow to try and retouch it. I am hoping he can
get rid of some of that orange without making my hair 'dark' or 'drab'
I just dont want to push my luck and leave the salon looking worse!

Hopefully an ash toner will calm it down a bit without making me look
mousey again!

When I first had my hair that auburn color, it was suggested to me to use Clairol Moongold and 20 vol. to fix it.  I never tried it though because I had highlights that were very light by the time I got that suggestion.  You may suggest that to your colorist.  Just make sure you let him know that you don't want it DARK just more natural looking.  Good luck!
