Non-permanent color?

Semi permanent hair color is deposit only haircolor. By this I mean it deposits color on the outside of the hairstrand and not into the cortex layer of the hairstrand like a permanent color. Please keep in mind that semi permanent color will not lighten your haircolor as it doesn't contain any lighteners in the haircolor. It is usually to enhance your current haircolor at the same color level or to go darker such as adding lowlights.

Sometimes with damaged hair if the cuticle which is the outter most layer of a hairstrand (kinda like scales on a fish) is severely damaged where parts are broken away from the hairstrand which would mean your hair is pourus then the color regardless of being semi, demi or permanent color will stain the cortex layer of the hair as their is no cuticle layer to prevent the haircolor from going into the cortex of the hair.

Susan sorry if this reply seems late I've been without a PC for 3 days and just got it back online. I'm not too famaliar with the Wella Color Line but I think Color Charm is their semi-permanent color. Semi Permanent color doesn't lighten hair. Also one of the main rules of haircolor is never, never ever.....put color over previously colored hair as it will not lift the artficial pigment from the initial hair coloring and the end result will only be darker and darker and eventually black.

Perms do alter haircoloring because they penetrate the cortex of the hair to breakdown and restructure the disulfide bonds in the hair to make the hair curly. The cortex is also where the haircolor pigment is and the solution alters it.

I am not famaliar with Clairol products but I wouldn't recommend putting more color over your already presviously colored hair for obvious reasons that I explained above. It should fade gradually over s weeks time or so that the color isn't so dark. The only way to lighten previously colored hair is bleach. Hope that answers all your questions
