I am considering perming some virgin Indianin hair that I imported to make it a spiral-type curl...is perming extension hair as damaging to it as bleaching it?  I know all processing can take its toll, and that some processing to virgin hair is just fine, but is perming gentler than lifting color?  Thanks in advance to you licensed experts for your thoughts!

I think perming can be just as harsh as bleaching hair.

I have permed extension hair and hair pieces before with mixed results.  I permed over processed hair, so the curl pattern was kind of weak. Now, since you are using virgin hair, I think that would derive a better result.

I totally ruined a hair piece by perming it.  It was a frizzy mess when I got done with it!

As always, do a test curl.

There are a lot of perms on the market.  The brand I like the most are 'ISO' perms.  I think you have to be licensed to buy them though.  Sally's beauty supplies sells some good perms.  I have used the Quantum perms and they usually turn out decent.

my fav perm is Synerfusion by matrix. its very gentle and the curls come out great. do a test curl like lisa says,  heck most of the companys we buy from perms them themselves anyway!

good luck laura

ps- i would venture to guess that extension hair would process a bit quicker??? so check it every two mins or so

Bringing beauty, one head at a time...

Because I am a salon owner, I can purchase anything a licensed professional can purchase.  I just want to know what the best products are, I will purchase them, and then have my licensed employees help me.  I just really value your opinions because you know about extension hair and many licensed folks do not...
