I'm considering buying a flat iron. What do you recommend? What's the price? What size is best for long hair? Should I get a wide one, or a narrow one to use to "bump" the ends?

For those with natural/texturized hair, does your flat iron get your hair as straight as your stylist gets it?

I want to buy a ceramic flat iron. But I'm also considering one of those jumbo curling irons.

Hair type: who knows?
Length: 23 inches as of 3/10/06
MY HAIR IS OFFICIALLY BRA STRAP LENGTH!!
Goal: Waist Length, which is only 30 inches so
ADVISE ME ON HOW TO GET JUST 7 MORE INCHES OF GROWTH!

I suggest the Maxi-Glide, I don't have one, but I've seen beautiful results like Pokahontas's hair. I'm not sure how much it is or which one you should get though.
Hair Type- 4a/b *transitioning front of my head*
Length-ranges from 5-7 inches =)
Products- Garnier Fructis S & S Poo, Lustrasilk Shea Butter Mango Conditioner and Cantu-Leave in =)

Yea, I suggest the Maxiglide!  It's $80 in Bath and Body works.  It can be a little bulky for some because the plates are wide but I have no problem at all handling it.  They sell a Miniglide also which is a smaller version.  I have two albums in my fotki of my hair straightened with it if you haven't seen them already.  It's such an awsome iron.  I get my hair way straighter than any stylist has ever done, even when I was relaxed.  It straightens like magic, lol.

My hairstylist used a "CHI" flatiron on my hair, and it did an awesome job. I am probably going to get one of those.

Well I haven't heard too many folks talk about Tigi Hardcore, but I LOVE IT.  The only thing I dislike is the fact that I bought the Lil Hottie, instead of the Turn Me On(neither of them have temperature controls).  The Lil Hottie is about half an inch while the Turn Me On is an inch.  Although I dont have long hair.. the lil hottie doesn't give me that full effect.  So I think you should try Tigi Hardcore Turn Me On, hard to find, and is 120, from the behindthechair website!

I always use mine on the first setting.  It gets as straight as I want on that setting.  During the straightening process I cut it off and on as I go so it dosen't get too hot.  Your mom's hair turned out nice.  Did you use the steam burst on it?  I don't always use the steam.

I love maxiglide It is the #1 thing that has helped me stretched my relaxer. I use the steam burst and it leaves my hair looking shiny, soft, and pin straight(use distilled water only!)You can sign up in the store to get coupons for 20% off and they honor that coupon even if you have already purchased the product. I have pics in my hair album too

Thanks, everyone!

My stylist used the Maxiglide on my hair and it made my texturized hair straighter than when I used to relax it straight.

I've found a place that sells it, and I'm going to buy one.

Which temperature setting do you guys use?  I have a "Low, medium, hot" setting.  I have 4b hair, what do you suggest?
Natural since March 2006

No "heat" challenge for Winter 08-09
