I wanted to add comments to the article written by Karen Shelton, titled Hair Takes a Powder, on 4/15/00 regarding hair powder. She has blond hair and suggested that corn starch works pretty good. She mentioned that it might not be good for brunettes, which is true.I’m a dark brunette with slightly auburn undertones.I purchased the travel size of the Bumble & Bumble hair powder for brunettes. This is the colored spray powder that they sell in conjunction with the shine product.Your hair looks pretty dull after the powder dosing, so the shine makes it look a bit better. Here is my story, as this morning was the first time I used it.First of all, I went light on it, and I got a little overspray on my forehead. It was a brown streak, and it looks like my head got spray painted.I tried wiping it off with some dampened toilet paper, and it just streaked it.I had to rub hard in order to get all of the stain off. Then when you fluff your hair after the spray, it makes your finger tips and nails dark, dark dirty brownish black.I still couldn’t get it off my nails (as I look down at my keyboarding fingers now).I’m afraid if it rains today that the brown will start streaking down my face, or on my clothes (thank god I’m wearing black today).Be careful how you spray this.I wonder what my bathroom floor looks like right now?Hopefully my white bra air drying behind the bathroom door isn’t over sprayed too.The other part of the B&B hair powder is the shine product.Be careful with this because if you don’t use it sparingly, then you will achieve exactly what you don’t want – which is an oily look.My stylist suggests just using it away from the scalp. She also suggests I spray in into my hands and just getting the flyaways.Oh boy – got to go! -- I just felt my ear right now and it has black all over it.How embarrassing!I’m at work and I bet a bunch of people already saw it.Now they will think I have dirty ears.Got to go now . . . (I’m not kidding, this is true)
It's me again -- I wanted to tell everyone that I had to go home immediately after finding out my ears were blackish-brown with B&B hair powder. My husband was home and laughed so hard when he saw me. He helped me clean up. He actually had to clean my ears for me, because it was deep in my ear where I couldnt' see. He used soap and water to get it all off, and he says it was on my neck. It wasn't funny then, but it is today. As I thought, the bathroom floor was slightly misted with the B&B soot, and also the bathroom sink countertop. It turned my husbands white socks a bit dirty. And no, my air-drying white bra did survive the event. All day long until I was able to come home from work, the B&B hair powder misted my forehead with micro black poweder flakes. I had to occasionally wipe it. Crazy thing is that I hardly used any of the product. Can't imagine what would have happened if I had really used a lot of it. Before I left the house back to work, it started raining! I had to run to my car. Can you imagine if black was streaking down my face? What if I had been wearing white? I took back the B&B powder today. Although my salon doesn't return product, I was able to exhange it for my favorite Pureology shampoo. All is well that ends well.
oh, my gosh. i wish i had read this before i bought it. it was $36 for a 4.4 oz bottle, and i have black hair. my fingers are black as i type this too.
i loved the concept that i wouldn't have to wash my hair, and i could just spray this powder, but really for the price, or for anything except maybe special occassions where you need the volume, this is SO NOT WORTH IT.
just like the previous writer said, you will be paranoid if it rains, on super hot days, forget about going to the gym after work if you put this in your hair, and if you like to touch your hair a lot, this gets everywhere. i had black marks all over my face because i didn't realize that i had that powder all over my fingers.
im going to take it back to the salon tomorrow. i would just rather wash my hair.

ughhh! I wish I had read this last week! I used to use the OLD Bumble and Bumble hair powder (that is similar to baby powder, without the smell). I just tried the new spray on 'hair powder'. First of all, what part of it is powder? The spray itself made my hair feel even more dirty. I got the one for blondes and my hair was almost dark brown by the time I was done! And I also had the spray in my ears, nose and found little spots of it throughout the day! What a horrible purchase...if only I hadn't thrown out my receipt!
Does anybody know of a good alternative to the OLD Bumble and Bumble powder?
Thanks
