Alana de la Garza plays a pretty young ADA. On "CSI: Miami," she had long dark hair that was very sultry. On "Law & Order," she's chopped her hair short.
The cut is rather plain and has that tucked behind the ears look. For a much more attractive short cut, check out Julianne Nicholson, new to Law & Order: Criminal Intent this year.
I can only think of two reasons for the chop. 1) With long hair, the two actresses would have looked a lot alike and producers didn't want the audience confused. 2) The short hair makes her look more like a serious lawyer.
I can agree with the first reason, but think good acting makes you believe someone is a serious lawyer. Hair has nothing to do with it. Annie Parisse had the ADA part last year with long hair. She wasn't convincing in the part because she didn't give a strong performance.

Too bad about the short do's. I just wished they would think haveing long hair don't make a strong character. It's just backward thinking.

Not so sure about Dick Wolf. Jill Hennessy started on the show with a chin length bob that got a little longer each season; Elisabeth Rohm the same; Angie Harmon was long from the git go and stayed that way. Mariska Hargitay went short the second or third season of SVU but is now back to a much longer style. I still like watching all of the Law and Order shows as you never know what you're going to see; last week on SVU, there was a girl with a buzz cut. He may be one of us.

But I also think that weird 'short hair=powerful image" idea is shot down the drain when you consider the cast of Charmed. Holly Marie Combs had it long, loose and wavy, while Alyssa Milano (in Season 6) wore a supershort straight cut, yet the strongest, most powerful character was Holly's.
Point is; the hair does not make the character.

I love the freckles on that one lady! I usually don't watch that show, but if someone that adorable will be on it, I might have to see it more ^_^ . I did catch the two similar-looking dark-haired ladies on the original L&O this week, though. They're both pretty ladies, though I'll have to wait and see whether their charas make any impression on me or not.
More awesome than a manatee!

I'm more distracted by how beautiful she is rather than noticing her hair!
I guess that's a good thing. :)

That is a terrible photo of Julianne Nicholsan. On the show she
actually looks cute and feminine, and is pretty and petite. Her freckles aren't as noticeable on the show either. She isn't
exactly believeable as a cop though, she is too little, too soft
spoken, she just doesn't seem like a cop. However she does well in the show
despite that.
Alana is beautiful, and very good in her part. She is very feminine,
yet has the charisma and presence to seem strong enough to do her role.

"I just hated my hair," Julianne says of her new 'do. "I just wanted to get rid of it. It actually happened before they called to see if I wanted to do this role, and I'm glad. I think it's a start to playing a new character."
