QuoteReplyTopic: Help My Color Is Ruined! Posted: October 16 2006 at 5:13pm
Let me start from the beginning.....my natural color is brown but I have always had it highlighted blonde. I lost my job over a year ago so I couldn't afford to have it profesionally done so I started using SunIn. Now I already know that this stuff is bad for your hair but I love the blonde color it gave me. My hair started growing out and I couldn't find the sun in anywhere, I heard it had been discontinued but my husband found it at a Biglots and bought it all. The stuff must have been either old or watered down because it wasn't working too well. I ran out of that and decided to buy a highlighting kit, the one I bought was Loreal Couleur 82. It was the lightest shade of Blonde they had. Ok so you first use the color and then go back and do the highlights. I knew right off after I did the first step I wasn't going to be very happy...it no longer looked like my lighter shade of blonde but was darker but I figured that I would just put the hightlights all over and that would fix it...wrong! My hair is no longer blonde but is an ugly light reddish blonde. I hate it so much! Is there any product I can use to get the red out or something else to put over it to get the blonde back?

If I can't buy my highlights from Salleys, the ONLY highlighting kit I will use is Loreal Frost and Design in the Purple Box. There may be better, but I trust this one. You can always use a toner after you rinse off the highlites to add coolness...just lift out the warmth, rinse and tone. Only do this if your hair is in good condition. Do some test strands before applying it to the whole head. Be prepared with some ash toner, some blue toner or some violet toner on hand. Don't pull the cap off til you've toned, if too brassy.
Figure out the amts of the toner to add. Read Claude's sticky. Goodluck.
I colored my hair a few days ago....so are you saying that all I need to do is put a toner on it or do I need to recolor and then use a toner? As far as the ash goes my experience in the past I once ended up with green hair!

What shade of brown...light, medium, dark are you naturally? How damaged is your hair feeling right now. Have ever pulled it through a cap? The most important part of the pull is the very front, top, and in front of your ears. I pull that part and let my husband do the rest and it looks great, but I have a few tips for that if you are going to do that. Are you satisfed with the level of color...sounds as if you got stuck in the red stages and didn't make it into the goldenblonde to golden orangey stage. You can tone that shade with very little damage. But what color do you desire to be now? Blonde? Golden medium blonde? What? There is a couple of ways to go about this...do you have a salleys near by?
I went to Sallys yesterday and they told me the red will eventually fade? They gave me stuff to put in my shampoo, it's a small black tube... a red/gold corrector. I haven't tried it yet but I'll post back later after I use it.
