Hello everyone.
Yep, it's happened again - another
incompetant hairdresser who doesn't know how to dye hair. I asked for
warm light brown panels to complement my natural red hair and instead I
get jet black tiger stripes. And this was done by a supposed top
coulorist at an Edinburgh salon. So now I'm £80 out of pocket and have
purchsed this goldwell remover stuff from ebay. Has anyone here used it?
Anyway,
I'm getting fed up at getting crap colours from hairdressers. £80 is a
lot of money, and I've came to the conclusion that if you have hair
that is different (ie red or blond, porous) many hairdressers just
don't have a clue. The 'dark blonde' she apprently put on me 'doesn't
go as dark as this on other people' - well that's not my bloody
problem, she was still happy to take the money (I hate
confrontation...but I'm not doing a letter in the hope of getting a
refund). FORTUNATELY she put a semi on despite advising me to go
permanant which I'm so glad I didn't, but at the end of the day it's
really not the point.
I have been to two reprtable salons in
Edinburgh who both don't have a clue. If anyone knows of anyone decent
please give me a shout. Sorry for the rant but I HATE spending money on
a service and getting a load of rubbish!! I don't mean to insult any hairdressers on here, but it seems to me (and I've been to salons a lot) that if you have unusual coloured hair (red) nautrally, a lot of hairdressers just don't have a clue.
Another question I have - is it possible to dye over bleached hair? The 'stylist' said it wasn't.

It seems to me when I call and make an appt. at a upscale salon and even if I explain, how screwed up my hair is bc the last hairdresser was suppose to be a professional, she still whacked off too much or messed the color up--gave me orangey lowlights when I ask for golden light brown, that I still end up with the new hairstylist.....the salon wants them to build up cliental so they book all new ppl with the newest stylist and usually they are clueless for the first few years until they have jacked enough hair up to learn from their mistakes and by then I am really screwed. I always had great stylists, but I married someone in the military, so we change duty stations every 2 to 3 years, soooooo I have to start all over again and I even ask around to ppl that's hair looks nice.
I am at the point now, that I color and highlight my own....my husband does a better job at pulling my crown and back thru a cap and me mixing up the color or hi-lites and him helping me apply than a trained "professional". Right now I love my color (light coppery brown) that I did all over then added some highlites and then added some large chunks of dark auburn with hubbie's help. I trim a bit, but the length is too hard to get straight across and with that he won't help.
But from now on I am going to call the shop and ask how long each stylist has been licensed, how long they been working their, how long have they been working in a beauty salon as a licensed hairdresser bc the girl at the desk has been ordered to not tell the potential client that the stylist is unexperienced and new....I know this bc I use to work in a salon and unless you know who to ask for you willl treated as a guinea pig!!!!!.
And yes, you can dye over bleached hair. You need to read the haircolor forum....esp. Claude's sticky and what they say is that you have to make it red before you make it the color you want such as brown. But ends of bleached hair are porous so they will grab, so that is another reason a protein red filler is important to apply before applying the color. Me....well, mine grabbed, but have slowly washed away...the next time when I added the auburn, I treated my ends with conditioner and changed my mixture a bit for when I did run the color thru my ends....just read up on here....Goodluck!!
Thank you for your reply. Fortunately a product called eraser has removed all the colour - it really is a miricle product but it set me back £20 that I really don't have. I got it on ebay. From now on I will do my colour myself - at least you can do a strand test at home. I've really had it with hairdressers. In the UK, even if you pay for an expierienced stylist they still screw up. I have red hair naturally, so just want some warm chestnut browns to break it up a bit - something kinda natural and certainly not BLACK! I'll have a look over at the sticky post. Thanks for replying, I apprecaite it.
If you ever come to Scotland don't go to Charlie Miller! Meant to be top notch salon - yeah right.....
