QuoteReplyTopic: Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks Posted: October 25 2006 at 2:30am
Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks has gone from longer and straight to shorter and poofy -- pretty much the way I first saw her in the Chicks years ago. Personally, I'll miss longer and straight, although I'm guessing others will disagree.
Short and sleek would work better for her than short and puffy. She
already has a wide, round face, and the puffy hair makes her head look
even fatter.
However I do like the Dixie Chicks music, they are one of the more
talented country groups (and I was born and raised in the New York City
area, not exactly country music territory, so if I like a country act,
they must have some talent and appeal beyond the usual country music bunch of folks).

Glad she went shorter, and normally would like this style, but not on her. I still think her best look was the short, layered 'do from years ago.
IMHO, the Chicks as a group all have great hair, and all never quite seem to find the right style for it. I always look at them and think "well, almost...."

This retro 50's style is blah! Her hair had been looking great before the chop. But, anyway, I really can't stand celebs of any political stripe who would proseletyze during *entertainment* shows. Given *her* political slant, I'll be surprised if Natalie ever returns to long and sensuous. I'm expecting short and cropped soon. Best, Bob

The reason she said what she did politically was that the Dixie Chicks
were playing a concert in Europe and getting booed off the stage by
people yelling at them to "go back to Texas" because Bush was from
Texas, so she said "I am not for Bush, he is an embrassment to
Texas".
Actually her views are not controversial these days, almost the entire
world doesn't like Bush and two-thirds of Americans don't like the Bush
administration either according to the surveys. The Bush administration
is viewed negatively or as incompetent by most people, which is why
the Republicans running for Congress are distancing themselves from
Bush, and are asking him not to campaign for them.
You must remember that half of Americans don't vote, and Bush only got half the vote of those who did vote.
I'm a Republican and vote Republican for Congress and I believe the
Bush administration is dealing with Afghanistan and Iraq, and other
things like border patrol, and corruption, in an incompetent way. So even the Bush administration's fellow Republicans are turning against them.
The Bush administration is hurting Republicans, and as a result of this we may lose the mid-term elections to the Democrats.

Just my humble opinion of course, but unless we are discussing Bush's hair, I do not feel it is in any way appropriate to be discussing him here.
People are often very passionate about their beliefs where politics and relegion are concerened. This is a forum to discuss celebrity hair, not national and international politics. That totally sucked the fun out of this visit to the board for me.

And by the way, back to celebrity hair, with regard to Natalies hair, I'm not so sure that it's cut as much as we think. I saw her on an entertainment show last night, and I couldn't see any really conclusive ends. This might(i'm not certain) be one of the best faux-bob/updo's we've seen.

Sorry to spoil your fun, but others commented on the Dixie Chicks political statements, so I just commented on that.
This is an election season, it is difficult to avoid politics
completely, the elections are soon. It doesn't disturb my fun any
discussing politics, it is just part of life.
However, this is a hairstyle forum, so getting back to her hair, I wish
she would style it differently, although when I saw her on tv recently
her hair looked better than in those photos.

Don't liberals usually grow their hair very long?

Interesting. You mention that since it's "election season", it's "difficult to avoid politics completely". Really? Well, check the rest of the board, I don't see it anywhere else!! No mention of Bush, no"I'm a Republican", yada, yada.
Thousands of American servicemen and women are now dead, not to mention civilians of other nations overseas. Did it ever occur to you that people of differing political persuasions, some of whom have lost spouses, childern, other relatives or friends, might come to sites like this to escape for awhile??Not be reminded of the mess that we've been led into? There are thousands of sites, chat rooms, and message boards out there to debate such things.IMO, this is not the place. I don't care that you are a republican. I don't care how you vote. I don't even care that you are sitting there in your "red skirt, pantyhose, and high heels". I care, (though mostly disagree in your particular case), with what you think about celebrity hair news.
I'm glad "your fun isn't disturbed" by discussing politics, I would just respectfully request you have said fun in an appropriate forum!

Rardman, now please settle down fella. There is no need for hysterics or
defensiveness on your part, I wasn't launching an attack on anyone.
Once in a while people might mention politics on a non-political
messageboard. It sometimes happens. No need to get all worked up about
it.
And I didn't bring up the subject here, others did.
I also have nothing but respect for our men and women in the military.
Since you don't want to discuss politics, then why didn't you just let the subject drop, instead of commenting on what I wrote?
So now, let's let the subject of politics drop, shall we.
Thank you much.

This will be my last post on this. Hopefully you are done as well. I was hardly being "hysterical". I was not attacking you. I did not infer that your position was right or wrong. I simply started this by saying I didn't think this was the right forum to address such matters. I still don't.
All the best.

Is it ok to comment on their music? If i didn't already mention it, I
like their music. They're good (for a country group. lol! Excuse me, I'm from New
York City).

Well, Heath, I was speaking more about the *angry* folks, whether liberal or not, who tend to wear their hair either cropped or long and stringy looking. Natalie is one furious gal, IMO.
I too have very strong political belifs, and utter contempt for many politicians. But, were I musically talented, I would NOT express them at my concerts. Paying customers have a right to enjoy themselves. And as for Ms. Maines herself, I hope the day comes when she becomes less self-consumed and recaptures a lust for life. She should listen to Billy Joel's "Angry Young Man". The shoe may well fit her. Blessings, Bob
