If you do a search on this forum you'll see quite a few mentions of "mushroom head." It's that point in application where you haven't matched the density of extension hair to natural hair. Thought I'd show a picture of what it looks like since I've never seen one posted before. This is corrected by adding more hair higher and then blending.

To the untrained eye, that looks GREAT.
To hair extension geeks, we all must gossip.

That was a couple rows away from being finished in the back. The completed shot I posted earlier today in the other thread. I saw the mushroom and had to have a pic.

Hi Amm ---

But what if someone has really thin hair on top & are nervous to go higher?  What should we do then to avoide the dreaded mushroom? Confused

I have that to begin with all the time but after a week or so the hairs a little more frizzy and has thickened up. It's because the hair I put in, when its new, is so silky straight!

cryprtion do you wash the install hair before you put it in. if you wash it first you get a better idea of what it will be like 'for real'

the hair is always coated with lots of products at first so it can be very flat until you wash it and the natural body comes out

lol
you make mushroomhead look good!

mine never looks so flattering

I usually do the top of my head first now to avoid being bitten by the mushroomhead bug

Too many times I've gone out with mushroomhead camouflaged with hair accessories because i didn't have enough time/patience to finish the entire head of extensions

Now I start with the top so I won't be tempted to embarass myself

Funny thing - I was watching "Celebrity Paranormal Project" on VH1 last Sunday and Gretchen Bonaduce had the mother of all mushroom heads! I even mentioned it to my fellow watchers - that girl's extensions are terrible! Long dark red hair that got half as thick- stringy, in fact - past her shoulders - really bad. Didn't know this affliction actually had its own term!!

Ahh that's a good idea i may try it!

Usually i like to keep the hair as it originally is and try to keep it in that condition for as long as possible! Because I NEVER get it that straight or shiny again- its the cheap wefts I use.

Cryption, the pics you showed us a while ago with that "almost mullet"-like do...that is not mushroom, right? I hope not cos it looks so fantastic!
Maybe all the difference is in the cut... .

Anyway, some REAL expensive hairdresser using REAL expensive brand hair made my head look like a mushroom: not enough hair for truckloads of money!

Hahah I guess it sort of it but it's more because the top layers are short and can be spiked up a little. And I think the concept is totally different when it's DELIBERATE ;;]
