Well the keratin seems a bit...stiff. The hot glue...a wee bit stiff. I'm gonna try the silicone with ribbon on both sides & give you guys reviews on all of them. Hot glue seems to be shedding. So far the silicone seems most flexible & safe if you leave for 48 hours at least. Valentine

i've decided to do a controled study, make sure it's not my inability to lay hair flat. I took a small weft piece & I've got 3 types drying. 1. keratin, 2. Hot Glue 3. Aquarium silicone, just cause I didn't have the silicone I this stuff, LOL actually made by the 100% silicone caulk company is more watery. I'll let you know the results.
Keratin, well the stuff is too hard. I feel the wefts would be really stiff at the top & you would need to do 1 inch pieces. Will it shed if coated correctly? I highly doubt it but hard against my head.
Aquarium sealant AKA 100% pure silicone. The aquarium version is very watery. doesn't make a nice weft line, I feel you'd seal it, wait 24 hours, flip it and seal the other side. I feel there would be very little shedding & the weft might need to be slightly buffed with a nail file just to make sure the LG sticks to it. The GE Silicone I (hardware store version, I feel is a better choice it's thicker. once dry it's supposed to handle right under 400 degrees. I don't feel the aquarium version (it has a different name but it's made by the same company, I called,) would shed very little and same for the Silicone I.
Hot Glue-OK here's were some experimentation came into play. there are 3 types of glue sticks. Lo, Hi, & multipurpose. The first ones I tried were Aleene's all purpose, univeral dual temp sticks. Made nice wefts felt they shed very little, decently flexible (silicone is most flexible). Felt the shedding was just a bit not much but also I was using loose hair so we have to go with the fact I more than likely didn't get it all lined up.
High Temp Hot glue-I was told at the store the high temp meant it could handle a higher temperature...wrong. It just gets hotter & you're able to play with it longer. Shedding was bad. Glue even when using the stick to push into the hair and ribbon didn't really seam to stick as well. Shedded horribly. You can blow dry your hair with the hot glue but cannot take a flat iron to the actual weft.
My fav was the polyseam but since it is acrylic it breaks down with both acetone & orange oil. I don't feel they would last.
My vote goes to silicone & hot glue (all purpose). Remember with the hot glue grab the package & bend the stick. Different brands are softer, you want one that bends easier to make softer wefts.
Now the true test will be wearing these over the next few weeks & giving feed back after removal.
