Hi everyone!  I posted here a few months ago about possibly lightening my hair myself.  I got some wonderful advice and instructions, but decided to play it safe and go to the salon to have it done.  I *think* I posted pictures of it when it was done...  Anyway, I'm at the point where I really need a touch-up but I can't decide what I should do!  I'm (finally!) getting married in August and at first, I was thinking I'd like  to have my natural color or something close to it for the wedding.  I'm not sure if I'd like looking at my wedding pictures and seeing myself with blonde hair, when I don't plan on having blonde hair for the rest of my life!  But I'm just really reluctant to get rid of it, as I really love the way it looks and everyone says it looks really good with my skin tone, which I agree with.  Plus when I think of all of the money I spent on it, to only have it for 3 months??

So here are the options I've come up with:

1.  I can dye it back to brown and leave it that way.
2.  I can dye it back to brown for the wedding and then have it lightened again after (or would that be way too hard on my hair?)
3.  I can go back in and have the roots done and keep doing it blonde, even for the wedding.
4.  I've also been playing with the idea of trying to do it (lighten the roots) myself at home.  I don't know if that'd be a real great idea, but I feel fairly confident that I could pull it off, given all the great help I've received here!  It's just getting really expensive to keep up with at the salon.  Plus, I figure even if I screw it up, I was maybe gonna dye it back to brown anyway so it wouldn't totally break my heart.

Anyone have any input?  I need to do something soon but I keep changing my mind.  I had an appt last week to have it done, then I changed my mind and just got a trim.  Then I decided I was gonna dye it back to brown last weekend but chickened out with that, too.  I just can't decide!

Do you think it would be "wrong" or "weird" to have a color that's drastically different from my natural color at my wedding?

Depending on how dark brown of hair you have, you could always start coloring it blonde at home if cost is the issue. My hair was light to medium brown and I colored it blonde for years at home. It looked pretty good too,no one ever knew it wasnt a professional job.

When I got married my hair was blonde as well. Now it is back to my natural color. I laugh and tell my husband he's had many different wives with all  my varied looks I've had.
If you like the blonde, then keep it that way for the wedding.

Or,if you want to compromise, you could have the salon do some brown low lights to mix in with the blonde. Essentially leaving you with your natural color and just blonde highlights.

Thanks for your reply!  My natural color is a medium-dark brown.  It's a little darker than I think what most would consider a "medium" but definitely lighter than a dark brown.  I guess if I had to choose between the two, I'd say it's medium.  When I was in junior high, I dyed it blonde at home myself with a box dye for a little over a year with no problems!  But when I first did that, my hair was all its natural color.

The part that I'm worried about with doing it myself at home, is that my roots have grown out about 2 inches (it's a heavy weave, not solid, all-over color so it doesn't look tacky).  I'm worried about not being able to match the roots with the lightened hair I already have.  Could that be a big problem?  I figured I would just do a few test strands to figure out how long I needed to leave the bleach on to get it to match.  I guess it couldn't hurt to try.  At least that way I'd know whether it's gonna turn orange and just not lighten enough before doing my whole head!

Any advice on how to do roots though?  Like I don't want to end up getting too much bleach on the parts that already lightened because it'll end up white!  Yet there's no way I could do foils at home... my hair is getting longer and it's super thick, so that'd take FOREVER.  Could I just buy one of those paint-on brush thingies that they use at salons, and just go through brushing it on?  I'm afraid that if I use my hands, I'll get it all over.

I would stick with the blonde if you like it that much. This is who you are RIGHT NOW, and you are getting married RIGHT NOW ... know what I'm saying? Smile I think it's a little silly to darken your hair JUST for your wedding and then go back to light. Just be you. It doesn't matter what the pictures show. It's not only your hair that will change throughout your life. You skin will change, your body will change -- you STILL will look different five, ten, twenty years from now ... BUT you will still be YOU!

I agree with the above post.  I had super bleach blonde hair for my wedding.  Now my hair is a wild orange color, but I've had about every color in the rainbow(natural & unnatural).  I'm just reiterating that you're a blonde now(and like it that way).

Why not keep it for your wedding?  If you're really apprehensive about it, why not lowlight with a darker color or keep some blonde as "highlights"?

Well,You could always dye the roots and then refresh the color all over so it looks the same color. The first time you do it,(The regrowth) you may want to pick a slightly lighter color so they lighten enough and dont turn orange.
