QuoteReplyTopic: Making Clip on Extensions Posted: May 17 2007 at 12:04pm
hi everyone, I'm new to the boards, so I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, but here goes.
I don't wear extensions (never have) but I've been reading about them here and there because I've been losing my hair for a few years now (mostly on top, crown area).
I can't wear my hair down, which totally sucks. And I also have a lot of trouble even putting it back in barrettes or anything, because of the lack of volume. I discovered EZ streaks http://www.humanhairpieces.com/PRODUCTS/ezstreaks.html and they help out some, but they're not perfect.
My problem is that they aren't long enough or the right color. I think I should be able to make my own, and I've found places to buy clips.. but I'm not sure where to get the hair?
I want to make small ones like seen in the link.. but they need to be at least 18". I want to be able to get a color ring from wherever i buy it from to try to match my hair (i am against dying it) and I want to be able to return the hair if it turns out to not match.
Anyone have any suggestions for a good place to buy the hair? Is a "weft" what I would need? I think a weft is stitched at the top.. right? Can you cut that into smaller sections if you want?
Also, is it just a matter of sewing the hair into a toupee clip, or is there more to it than that?
Thanks for reading this, and hopefully I'll get some replies

in the sticky at the top of the forums, i think titled hair extensions 101 there is a link to a lot of different places that sell extensions - good place to start looking, where you eventually wind up purchasing from really is just personal prefrence and what you're willing to spend.
what you want is indeed a weft. you can cut wefts into diffrent lengths, but its not reccemended if you use a handtied one unless you're very careful and seal it with something like nail glue after. machine wefts you can trim with no problem.
check out doctoredlocks.com and yourhairshop.com for tutorials on how to make the clip-ins, but yes it is essentially just sewing on the toupee clip.

its been happening almost EVERY post since it went back up. HE101 has been loading slowly lately too. hmm gotta be servers... i bet thats why HB shut down yesterday, maybe getting server providers or someting, well they suck if they did
diyextensions.net isnt running slow for me, so i guess its something wonky in the HB system, lol im so spoiled with roadrunner internet service....this is nothing compared to how slow dial up was, so im not going to complain too loudly!
