Hi,

Thinking about getting Russian wefts and having them braided in.... what is the best way to go about finding a good braider?  What kind of questions should I ask?  Do most have books to check out thier work?  Will they frown upon the fact that I am bringing in my own hair and not buying it from them, since, I assume, they make most of thier money that way?

I am located in British Columbia, Canada for the summer but live in Maine most of the year.  Does anyone have any recs for braiders around the Vancouver/Seattle area or the New England area?

Does anyone here actually sew/braid in thier own extensions?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions you may have :)

Hi there. You will probably get a lot of good advice from this site. When you say "braided in" Im guessing you mean sewn in and not pinch braids? Wefts get either sewn or glued in so I just wanted to make sure I understood you.

You can ask how long they have been braiding and have they worked with several different types of hair before. Not all will have photos of their work but dont write someone off because of that either. At the very least, I ask to see their sew in as most likely they are wearing one. I would be more cautious of someone that has absolutley nothing to show to even prove they can do it and works out of their home and stuff. Just use your best judgment.

They should NOT give you a hard time about bringing in your own hair. People do that all the time. In my opinion its okay if they want to show you some of their hair for a future purchase what have you, but if you walk in there with your own hair, that should be the end of it and no high pressure sales. Make sure with the Russian you just tell them to go easy on the cutting for obvious reasons. Its like gold being swept into the trash.

Here is where I went and i loved her. She was a sweet lady and did a great job.

She's in New England near Boston.

I cant do my own, no way.

Hey MintMocha! I agree with Krimsa. You won't offend them by bringing your
own hair. I've gone to a couple of braiders and brought my own hair. Neither
one of them supplied the hair. Anyway, you won't be stepping on anyone's
toes bringing your own hair.

Check craigslist for braiders. Look under services and do a search.

I was just gonna say if Boston is too far for you to travel, have you tried Portland yet? Im in New Hampshire so she was the clostest I could find. Keep in mind maintanance and its not a one shot deal. Most people go 4-6 weeks in between. Not quite as long as strand by strand installs.
