While in the process of keeping my hair healthy and trying to grow my hair to my bra strap, I'm in the ugly phase. Meaning my hair is just not at a length that looks good right now! I usually rollerset my hair. It just always seems to look and feel so much healthier when I do this. But I'm tired of lookin like Oprah! don't laugh!... My hair is very thick and healthy, and it's a medium length bob. My sister says it's the texture of a wig and it looks like and old woman's wig! I'm not sure what to do to make it look more contemporary. I don't want to cut it into a style, but I'd like to try more HIP and updated styles that still allow me to have healthy hair! Help! What sort of styles could I wear?!

Ciao!

Have you thought about doing a flat twist style in the front only and leaving the back out in curls that would be cute also when in doubt I put in braids

Flat twist? What's that? I'll try anything at this point. I'm thinking of breakin' out the ole CHI irons this weekend.

Stay away from the Chi!

Well, if you HAVE to use it, make sure you deep condition first and use a good heat protectant.

Okay, I won't use the CHI. I've gone this far without much breakage and things. I'm not going to turn back now! Your hair looks fabulous! Has it always been long?

In high school, I wore a short feathered style.

In college, with no one to cut my hair, I let it grow out and learned to relax myself.  That's went I started condition washing that grew my hair to collar bone.

After college I got to armpit length -- it will nice and thick and full -- then I lighened it with Sun-in (which contains peroxide)... it held up for a while then broke off the next year after a touch up.

I wore it up instead of cutting it, then cut it to shoulder length when the damage grew out.

I grew it out to past armpit, then broke it off because I stopped deep conditioning and started using heat occasionally. It was a mess.

I'm grazing brastrap now -- this is the longest it's been (but there are many girls on hair boards far longer and thicker), but not the thickest. I miss the thickness. But I know I need to cut and grow, cut and grow til the thickness comes back.

Almost finished updating fotki, will send you link in next 48 hours! Can't wait for your pics!

Syn.

(Girl, wait till you see what a mess my hair was 2 years ago. I still need to cut off damaged ends but I'm not doing that until January).

My hair would be a lot longer right now if I didn't cut it. Story of our lives right? I cut it because I either wanted a style or felt like it would be easier to manage if it were short. Silly me. It's growing well right now. I don't plan on coloring it. Unfortunately, I'm afraid to get my ends. Last time she cut off about 4 inches. Claiming it was too thick at the ends. It was very thick since it was all one length. I'm still traumatized, so I refuse to let anyone clip my ends....  It looks healthy and I get tons of comments, but I know the little split ends I have are creeping up my hair shaft, so I'll have to make a choice quick!!! Shocked
