Hi! I've been reading messages on this forum for awhile, but this is the first one I've posted.

My natural hair color is medium-to-light brown with reddish hues, and for the past five years or so, I've been coloring it red--kind of a light auburn color, which had gotten kind of organge-y.

I decided I wanted a darker hue for fall and used a dark auburn shade. It definitely made my hair darker--a little too dark for me--but it also took all the red out of it! If I stand in direct sunlight, you can see a slight reddish hue, but otherwise it just looks plain brown.

I'm wondering how I can fix my hair to get the red back. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I colored mine dark auburn to, but it keeps getting lighter, so I use a deposting color on my hair to help keep it red.U should try What use to be called, Artec color & now is Loreal color moisturizer. They have all kinds of red colors. They have diff. colors from all hair colors. It's great stuff.I love it!! I wouldn't try any color on your hair because color over color doesn't work.It only works if u use a darker color.Dark color will cover over color, but if u try to use a lighter shade it won't do anything. The depostiing color stuff will add color & brighten your color.I'd get either Cherry Bark color moisturizer or Mahoganey. It helps out alot. I don't wanna see u mess up your hair bad by coliring it too much.Beleive me, I have done it alot!!

You could try stripping it if you think it's too dark (trust me this really works)
Use like a dandruff shampoo or a dishwashing liquid (any kind will work)
In about a week it will be lighter and you'll see more red.
I had the same problem as you actually very recently. Now my hair only looks red in the sun.
Or,you could add a few highlights to it.That way it is still dark but with some red lights and tone to it.

editted to add that if you do strip it a little, make sure to condition good as it really dries out the hair.

I ended up washing my hair with Prell shampoo a few times, and the color faded a lot. Phew!
