Hi all. I will probably be going to have my sew in taken down and redone here fairly quick, probably mid to later this month. Its still pretty tight.
Since this is my first time wearing a sew in, I have never had it taken down and redone as of yet. So what is the normal routine on that? I would expect they remove the wefts, come out all the dead hair that has accumulated, shampoo you good with a clarifyer, dry the hair totally and then sew you back up?
The only thing is the lady i go to works out of her house and I cant remember seeing a shampoo sink in her work area. I would like to shampoo my hair really good before having the wefts reinstalled just to get my scalp very clean and oil free.
I could try to remove the wefts myself the night before going to her so i can shampoo at home before i go back to her but im scared to do ANY cutting myself as i could damage something or cut out a chunk of my own hair or something along those lines. These wefts were expensive as hell and should last through many installs so i would be angry if I ruined them.
What has been your own expierience with sew ins and if you are a stylist that does them, what do you normally do with clients coming in for a redo? Thanks.

Well if she tells me to take it out myself, Im not doing that. I can barely see it since its all black and blends in and I dont want to risk hurting the weft. If it was $25 Sally hair, then i would go for it no problem but I dont want to wreck this up.

I removed my own wefts, cleaned, conditioned and blow dried my own hair before I would get my hair redone. She will do yours, it'll just mean you'll be there a little longer which is no biggie. Just call her.
Not all stylists do takedowns.. Some expect that you come to their shop with your hair clean and ready for your weave. Some will do the takedown, and charge an additional fee for it. Others will include takedowns as part of the re-install..
You need to call your stylist and ask her what her procedure is.. Explain to her that you are uncomfortable taking it out yourself, and see what she says.. Also if she does hair out of her house she may not do cosmetology services. So even if she will do the takedown, you may have to wash your own hair afterwards.. (One of my backup weavers does hair out of her home and if she does my takedown, I have to use her bathroom to wash my own hair)
You need to call her and find out if she does takedowns and what it entails..
If she can't/won't do it you should see if you can get a friend help with the takedown.. However that said MsHoney is right.. Though now my stylists usually do my takedowns, I used to always do my own takedowns.. In fact I took down my last two installs myself.. It's not hard to do if you are patient and take your time.. I don't use mirrors, I do it all by feel.. Simply feel the thread, and then carefully cut ONLY the thread. I've never accidentally cut my hair or my wefts during a takedown..

I will call her and find out. I can feel the lumps where the rubber bands are. She had said cut those first if you ever want to take it out. I would feel safest having her do it or if not her just going to any hair salon because chances are they will have a pair of small scissors and can get behind me to do it and it will be easier for them. But thats risky also if its a person thats never seen a weave before.

I understand, and if this was a salon this would not be an issue..
My stylist does takedowns.. and takedown means taking down the weave, washing and conditioning my hair, and blowdrying it before braiding my hair up again..
However since your stylist is working from her home, you need to know if she does any other services besides putting in the weave.. (She may not)

I think when I remember back to her place there, she did have a shampoo sink. Whether or not she uses it on clients is hard to say so I will ask. When I had come in for the weave, my hair was not freshly washed but I had colored it the night before so it was relatively clean from that process.
I don’t plan on coloring it this time though and just want to shampoo it beforehand. My hair is skimpy and fine lol so it’s not like it will take her hours to blow dry, probably 20 min max. I would think the entire appointment an hour with the weave. I am also willing to pay her any additional she needs for taking that extra time.
I will call and find out what her set up is there and what she can do. I know she had mentioned before she doesn’t deal with color. Its not that she cant do color but has worked with it for years and now it bothers her to breath it in (understandable) so that’s why she has clients do their own. She can make recommendations on what they use however. She told me only use temps from now on due to the texture of my hair so that is what I use. By temps I mean semi-perms, peroxide but no ammonia. Those rinses and such I guess some people love them but they are too much upkeep for me because they last like 6 days. Im also brunette naturally so it all kind of blends anyway know what I mean? The color just gives it some shine/body so i do that on occasion.
