QuoteReplyTopic: shrink links or metal/copper locs? Posted: September 29 2007 at 1:30am
I was just wondering if there was a difference in the amount of damage or safety of the mark barrington shrink links vs. the metal hairlocs or similar locs? I was looking for a safe method that would be super invisible and provide the least amount of damage. what is everyones preference and why? thanks!
I like and use both methods. But with any method, the extensions must be put in correctly, cared for correctly, and taken out correctly, or damage can ensue.
My only big beef with hairlocs is that they sometimes tell you that you can simply just reopen the link and slide it up, instead of taking it all out and getting all that shed hair out in a timely manner.
If you opt to go with hairlocs, just make sure to get them completely removed after 12 weeks, and then you can reapply if you want to wear them again.
With the MB shrink links, I think it is helpful if the stylist removes it as one would remove fusion: a drop of alcohol or acetone and crunch with a plier.
Mark Barrington teaches to reheat the bond to remove it, but I find that it leaves too much residue behind on the hair, which could be damaging, if a lot of impatient combing is done to get it out.
Thanks Metal girl...that is really helpful info. By the way, What method do you find the most comfortable? do you find both pretty similar? I tried a couple of each and found the shrinklinks bulky...maybe it was the person who put it in my hair, but the hair inserted in the link was bulky and poking through the top. ALso with the shrink links, the amount of hair he used was very little to hold the link compared to the amount used for the hairlocs (which was the same amount as the hair being attached which made more sense to me).
