Hi I am new to this site but not to hair and need another professional's advice.
I have a client who is about a level 2 naturally and would like to be blond. Big hassel I know.
She has previously gone to another stylist and now has ugly orange hair.
I need to correct the orange, get as close as I can to blond and not kill her hair.
She has told me she has relaxed her hair about a yr ago, so I know the relaxer is still in her hair. This can present a major problem as we all know.
Any advice another pro could give me would be great. I love a good color challange but this is ridiculous!

honestly i'd consider taking the "pros only" out of your post - so many people on this forum aren't professionals but have great advice to offer! especially those that are blonde and understand the trails & tribulations of the process.

I agree with asiabo. This forum's members have helped me learn to do my own hair and get it to the light blonde stage that no professional could (much lighter than my pic). Not putting down professionals, they also post here and I've learned a lot from them as well. But the members who do their own hair also really know their stuff and could offer you wonderful advice.

I agree with the others. I'am not a pro,but have sucessfully colored my dark hair blonde many times and learned from trial and error.
Seems as though if your clients hair is orange,then it only needs to be lightened again for a short amount of time and then possibly toned with an ash color.
Good luck,I hope a pro answers your question.
Also,you want your client to do some protein treatments before hand.

I appreciate your replys and thank you for trying to help. I've been in the business for over 13 yrs and have had further education from not only Paul Mitchell & Redkin but also at the Gramm Web academy in California. Although you may be saying to yourselves well you shouldn't have to ask for help then, as long as I'm in the business I will always seek advice from other professional stylist with yrs of education in my field. I didn't mean to offend anyone, but when dealing in chemical processes in high-class salons where colors start from over $100.00, stylist not only like advice from their peers and bosses but also from other stylist around the country. Any advice from this site may be very helpful to everyone, but when dealing with my career only an experts advice is requested.

In response to julesyjul88, although it may seem as easy as lightening the orange out of the hair and toning with an ash color, this client has previously had a relaxer. Bleaching or lifting the color out of her hair is not an option as this will break her hair off. A color such as a level a 9 will not even touch it, as color will not lift color no matter what volume developer you use. Also toning with an ash color will leave a deposit with an undershade of green which is used to correct red not orange. This will turn the hair a green brown and the underlying pigment will look drab and muddy. Using protein on the hair, although good for some hair is very drying & should never be used alone. A protein such as Redkin PPT formula would only dry her hair out and make it more susceptible to breakage. I have already corrected her hairs' porosity using a keratin based reconstructor to repair the cuticle and cortex from the inside out and return its ph balance to its natural level of between 4.5 & 5.5. Advanced chemical processes are a true challange and are tough even for the most experienced colorists. We all wish they weren't on some level, but if that were the case people wouldn't need us. Thank you for offering your help and please don't take offense to my reply, I in no way would ever try to undermine someone who offers their advice in good faith.

Then why cant you just color her hair a darker shade? It sounds as if going blonde would be too risky.
While I respect you are a professional,I have had my own hair turn orange. I called the hair dye company and was told to use an ash color,and it did the trick just fine. It wasnt as blonde as I would have liked it to be,but it was better than having orange hair.
Also,since you are a pro,I'm sure would know that using a protein filler while dying her hair may help alot from further damage occuring.
I had a stylist use that on my hair when she had to color my hair three times after It had turned out a green shade.
Hope you find the answers you are looking for,and I dont take any offense.
I'm not a professional, but I did spend some time in cosmetology school. I just don't have enough information to determine whether I'd even do this service, much less offer any advice about further lightening.
I'd definitely recommend talking to another stylist at your salon, to see what they have to say about it. Without knowing the basics about the client's hair or knowing the products you have available to you, it's nearly impossible to post any helpful advice.

Q: Can Kaleidocolors be used on relaxed hair? Is it all right to highlight relaxed hair?
A: Relaxed hair that is in healthy condition can be highlighted with Kaleidocolors mixed with 10-volume developer.
So You could go to this site or the professional color provider you use & ask them & I bet they will help. Please let us know your results & goodluck!

Thank you for your response. I'll check out that site. I was looking for a site I could use, but since I rarely post Q&A's, I wasn't sure of the name of any.
Just out of pure curiosity, are you a stylist or in school by chance? I'm impressed with the amount of research you're doing and the fact that you not only remembered me and the question I had posted but that you took the time to give me a helpful answer and post a web site I can look to for more information.
