OK I bit the bullet & went for the cold fusion. I am so glad I did! Everything about it is phenomenal--the hair is beautiful (first curly hair I've tried that's soft & shiny), the bonds are fabulous--they're invisible & I can barely tell they're there, I've had little to no shedding, & the service was outstanding. I only wish I'd known about this when I first got extensions last summer.
So, I've had them for about a week & so far so good. Very expensive, but after all the money I've spent over the last 6 months replacing hair & getting maintenance more often than I should need to, probably I'd have saved money in the long run.
I did go for their maintenance plan also. It's $500 a month. This includes a monthly checkup & fill, & new hair every 4 months. I won't have to spend another penny other than tips. It saves me about $500-600 a year. And it's worry free, they'll replace every strand you lose, & I have total faith in the stylists. They've been doing extensions for 20 years, cold fusion for 7 years. It's a family business & they really gave me the red carpet treatment (considering what I pay they should anyway LOL).

$500 per check up? What if you don't need any hair? You pay $500
for them to look at it?
I would think (and this is just a shot in the dark, really) that if the cold
fusion works so well then most likely you won't need so much maintaince and you won't need $500 worth of hair every month.
LOL it's much more than a car payment. More than mine anyway. But my hair is MUCH more important than my car (especially since I only drive about 5 miles a week). This is the first year I haven't rented a beach house, & this works out to about the same so I figured WTH.
The $500 is for full servicing. So, I get a monthly checkup & fill, replacement of any strands that come out, and maintenance w/new hair every 4 months. I compared it to what I was spending with hairlocs, it's about $150-200 more a month but much higher quality--both the hair and the service. I have had such a hard time finding someone who does a good job! Maybe if you guys lived closer I wouldn't have to shell out this kind of money!
Anyway, it is well worth it to me to know the hair is the best & the people putting it in know what they're doing (BTW they call it an application--they were very offended by the term installation, they said it sounded like putting a transmission into a car). I was getting really tired of calling 20 people a month to find a new stylist, buying new hair every month or two, replacing lost strands every week, & generally being frustrated & pi$$ed off at my hair.

$6000/year for maintenance plus the cost of "application" is really steep, I'm glad you like it though...I hear you about how important it is to like your hair.
Now where are those pictures lady!!

Wow, that is a lot of money,even for cold fusion. I use cold fusion from Socap, and I dont think Ive ever charged that much. But as long as your happy then I guess its a win win situation for all parties involved. Congrats on your new extensions !

The first 2 pics are the most recent w/the GL cold fusion. Can I just say I LOVE LOVE LOVE this hair! It's so soft & tangle free, the color is absolutely beautiful, there is no shedding, no strand loss, no at-home maintenance--I think it's about as close to natural hair as you can get! Plus the bonds are so much more comfortable than having like 100 copper links sticking into my scalp, not to mention much less visible. Yep, it's expensive, but it was worth every penny.
My only complaint--it's too long! I really just want my hair to look the way it did before I ruined it. I have an appt to get it cut (Guci does extensions & only extensions--no coloring or cutting JeepGirl) next week, but it pains me to cut it since it cost so freakin much. I keep telling myself I'm paying for the look, not a specific amount of hair, but still...........anyway, it looks a little messy & uneven, I want maybe 2 inches cut off & a little styling/shaping.

THE RUSSIAN HAIR I INSTALL USUALLY COSTS AROUND $900. FOR 2 OR 3 THICK HAND TIED LONG WEFTS THE TAKE DOWN WITH REINSTALL IS AROUND $300, EVERY 3 MONTHS. MY CLIENTS USUALLY KEEP THE HAIR FOR AT LEAST A YEAR OR TWO. HONESTLY, PLEASE TELL ME, AM I NOT CHARGING ENOUGH???

Hi, I just read your post and am very happy that your so pleased but I honestly think you are over paying for your monthly maintenance.
I'm in New Jersey also and I'm a certified Great Lengths extensionist for about 7 or 8 years. I do GL at my salon for many of my customers and there is no such thing as a fill (normally thats for nails). Maybe your just using the wrong terms but either way, once you apply the extensions there's no way of filling in what grew. You can add more pieces but even if you do add more pieces, it doesn't change the hair that was already in.
I do have some of my extension customers come in once a month, but that's their personal choice, just to get their hair washed, dried and looked over to make sure it's going good.
I'm in Westfield, NJ which I consider to be a pretty upscale town and my prices for extensions start at $600 and go up to about $1500.(just to give you something to compare to). And if I have any extra strands left over I will usually put them in for the customer when she comes in for a blowout and just charge her 20-25 extra ontop of the blowout. I'm assuming that the strands they are adding are extra from the original service, since a whole new bundle is 25 strands.
I went to the website you posted and to me it seems that your paying for the luxury of a very upscale shop (and I'm sure your hair looks wonderful, as well) but I think your over paying. I'm not trying to promote myself, I just hate to see people getting ripped off. As long as your 100% happy, thats all that matters.
So, I wish you continued happiness with your extensions.

I understand what a fill is for nails--I don't think I'm using the wrong terms. A fill at Guci is replacing strands that have come out, or adding strands if the hair has thinned from shedding. It's not replacing hair between the bonds & your scalp LOL. You can get it done monthly at no cost w/the maintenance plan, or you can take a pass. They do keep any extra strands & use them for fills.
Your salon in Westfield must offer really good deals. I had 3 consults for GL warm fusion. One at Guci, one at a salon in Livingston & one at a salon in Maplewood. All 3 gave me the same price. The cold fusion is more expensive b/c 1) the method is less damaging to the hair & 2) supply & demand--it's tough to find (Guci is the only place that does it in NJ). It's similar to car dealerships--like Mercedes will only allow dealerships within a certain distance of each other to sell their cars. GL does the same thing, at least with cold fusion. Seems like there are an awful lot of folks in this area who do GL warm fusion.
It is most definitely getting cut. It might look beautiful but it's a PITA. I did live with it for a couple of weeks (I'm done making snap decisions about my hair!), but my lifestyle is just too active to have all this hair! I actually really liked the length on my picture trail, it was pretty but still managable, & it wasn't constantly getting tangled up in exercise equipment or my puppies paws.
Cold fusion is just all hype. Is it no more or no less 'safe' than warm fusion. I have done both on clients with equally good results.
The heat of warm fusion is not enough to damage the hair for the few seconds it is used to apply the bond.
They charge you more for cold fusion (and therefore fabricate the reasons why it's more) because the machiene is so expensive to purchase. I am So Cap certified, and their cold fusion machine costs $4000!
Any method, cold or hot, is only as 'safe' as the experience of the person putting them in (proper application), the care of the customer (don't let it get matted at the root), the care of the stylist taking them out (be patient and don't rip the hair) and take them ALL out after 3 months and then reapply fresh if you want to.
Problems for GL clients can happen since the company trains it's stylists to overcharge and because of that they tell the client you can wear these things for 6 months in order to justify the ridiculous cost. Any unlike So Cap ( and micro rings, and Shrink Links) GL doesn't allow you to reuse the hair. What a waste of good hair and a racket, if you ask me.
I'm not sure I agree. I mean, THE most damaging thing to hair is heat in any form. Read Paula Begoun's book, it has a great explanation of how heat damages hair, & how it impedes growth. I don't even like to diffuse my hair for a few minutes, much less have a hot tool touching hair close to my scalp. Personally I'd rather be safe & spend the money.

I agree with Malibu, your hair is way too beautiful to cut it... you look prettier w/ longer hair.
Wait a couple of weeks, it takes a while to get used to a different hairstyle sometimes! Thanks for the pics, it's a beautiful work! It sounds very expensive to me, but if you can afford it after all, why not?! Make yourself happy!
