Highlights on Fine Hair

I have very thin and fine hair.  My hair is ash brown.  I like to get gold highlights.  Almost everytime I go to get highlights my hair comes out too solid and too pale.  I really need a hairdresser that knows how to work on fine hair.  I live in the Pocono mountains of PA.  If their are any hairdressers out there near that area that are good with fine hair please let me know.
