QuoteReplyTopic: EDITED: How to get black demi-perm hair dye out? Posted: December 07 2008 at 11:09am
ETA: Well, I tried the Color Fix. It doesn't have seemed to do much. My hair might be a little lighter near the roots, but the rest of it, especially the bottom is still dark dark dark.
I also noticed that when looking at my long bangs in the sun it looked reddish, but I don't know if the rest has a reddish tint since I couldn't see it.
I think I'm going to try it again in a couple of days, unless someone suggests something different. /EDIT
I am trying to decide whether to use Metalex w/ a level 20 developer I bought to go with it (as the directions said to mix the 2 together) or ColorFix.
Here's my story: Right now my hair is black, dyed with a demi-permanent dye- Clairol's Natural Instincts about 3 months ago. I thought it would fade, it hasn't.
Naturally, my hair is a medium brown, but over the years I have used other demi-perm.s by Clairol NI- all some form of red color- I have probably done this about 3 times or so.
I would honestly like to get back to my natural color, but if that's not possible, then at least get the black out.
I tried Color Oops last night and it didn't do a thing for me.
I've heard this complaint before, but usually its with permanent dye or Feria, not demi stuff by Clairol. Did you rinse REALLY well after using it? Colorfix shrinks the dye molecules, but you still need a LOT of rinsing to help them come out of the hair.
If you think metal build up maybe a problem, (such as if you have well water, or know you water has it in it) it wouldn't hurt to use metallex before the colorfix. Do it the wash before, give your scalp oil time to come back and protect your head before the colorfix or dye day.

Hm..well I definitely used Clairol Natural Instincts - I purposely chose it because I thought it would fade out after a month or so.
Yes I rinsed for 20 minutes and shampoo'd twice with Suave Clarifying Shampoo and used Suave Clarifying conditioner as well.
Hmm..I'm not sure what kind of water it is, I live in an apartment complex, I suppose I could try and find out from them.
**Would you recommend using the Metallex *and* the developer together, or just the Metallex?
And so you're saying I should use for example, the Metallex one day, and then the next day try the Colorfix? And what do you mean I should do to protect my hair?
Thank you!!

I'am shocked.I used natural Instincts too in dark colors and had quite alot of build up and Color oops made me like a strawberry blonde using it only once.
I have also used Metalex twice successfully to get out Natural Instincts. If I was you,I'd use it WITH the developer.
Hey Susan,do you think she should try a Soap cap? I'd tell her how but I'm not totally sure.(I think you mix a tiny bit of bleach and mix it with shampoo and leave it on only 10 minutes but I'm not sure)

Hi Jules! Thanks for the reply. Wow, I don't know why I can't get the color out of my hair then! Maybe because it's been in my hair a couple of months, and the other colors below have been in there a while too (I think I started doing demi-dyes about 2 or 3 years ago-mostly auburn colors and they never completely faded out)?
I think I might try ColorFix again, and if that doesn't work Metalex w/out developer, and if my hair is still alive then w/ developer...

Well,I sure hope you find something that works for you.
Recently,I had quite bit of color build up that looked black on my ends from using natural instincts and it just wouldnt wash out.
I ended up using a product called garnier color breaks, which is pretty much just brush on highlights.
It says to leave on 20 but I only left it on ten and got the dark color out. That is the only other suggestion I have.Gradually lighten using highlights.
