QuoteReplyTopic: Same dye, different color? Posted: January 10 2009 at 3:16pm
I just had my hair redyed by the same beautician, using the same dye that I always have her use, and my hair came out a different color from the color it was two months ago when she did it then. Why? I am starting to go through menopause, so perhaps hormones caused it? She is adamant that she did nothing different, and that the color was the same. But, I could tell that when it set for awhile before washing out, it was a purple color and it's usually a rust color. The final color this time was purplish gray and usually it's a strawberry blond. Oh my, what a big disappointment.
Can hormones really play havoc with dye ?
I just want to know why this happened. I'm not looking to blame her, but I need to understand.
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on the topic.

Mmmmmm this is a difficult one. Sometime pregnancy and menopause, even medication can alter the hair structure slightly.
Was there any ash tones use as ash toners can often pull a purple/blue/grayish hue on the ends of porous hair, which will eventually wash out.
I have had this happen to a few of my regular clients, and I use a mixture of bleach and 10 vol developer and shampoo mixed together emulsify through my clients hair for a few minutes and this always solves this problem. So its possible this is what has happened to your hair, in saying that I would not say it was the stylists fault, as it does happen.
