QuoteReplyTopic: Anyone know how to get this style? Posted: January 27 2005 at 3:05pm
Forgive me on this post and my seemingly ignorant knowledge on hairstyles and the terms. I am looking for help though and I'm praying one of you out there will be able to help me.
I feel compelled to say that I've never had much luck when it has come to hair. My hair hates me, I hate it. It's a mutual relationship. To make matters worse, I'm afraid I don't have the best times at the ol barber/stylist either. It seems no matter how I say how I wish my hair to be cut it always ends up the same: near bald with no ability to do anything. I've decided to try and go against this multiple times by growing my hair out. The problem with this is three fold. First, it seems that society doesn't seem to look too approvingly on men with longer hair (at least not in this state). Second, when I have grown my hair out I've been mistaken for a woman many, many times. And last, I have extremely flat hair when it gets long. Heaven help me, I've tried every remedy that people could recommend to give it some volume (from shampoos to trying to make it curl to some things you probably don't even WANT to know about) and nothing helped. Not even in the least.
So here's my dilema. My hair is starting to get on the longer side again. It's getting to the point where I can't do anything with it (it's becoming too flat to do anything). I want to cut it. I have a style in mind but I don't know what to say. I've taken pictures in before and it always ends up the same. This time I plan to try a new place that openened up but I know that just handing he/she a picture won't be enough. So if anyone out there can help me find the words to say when I request what I want I will love you forver.
I'm posting some pictures. I know that it'd be so easy and tempting to just say "short enough to spike" but when I look at these pictures I don't feel that it's simply that. It seems..different than just a "cut short to spike" type of look.
And I feel really cheesy about posting this in the first place, so be gentle. :(
Oh yeah, just one more note.. I'm not going to bleach my hair, so ignore the color. And if you need better pictures, please just ask. I've got a number for refrence.
Maybe it would help to not only show them the picture, but to give them exact lengths. Like tell them you want to spike it, but you want each piece 2 inches long on the top, an inch long on the sides, and shaved closer above the ears. (Or if that's to big a length difference, an inch and a half on top, an inch on the sides etc.....you can use a ruler and see what would be the lengths you want).
Maybe you will have more luck at one of the more stylish looking hair places than at a regular barber. (By stylish I don't mean expensive, just one that looks like it caters to more stylish hairstyles).
Don't be too frustrated if you don't get exactly what you want the first try. Some of us women spend years looking for the perfect stylist/colorist!
