Hi Everyone,

What an awesome site this. I am so happy to have found it. About a year or so ago I had very short hair (just above the shoulder).

My hair is fine and babylike. I decided I'd had enough of messing with products, hairdryers and the likes and it was time to get back my long locks. Here I am today and it's just at my bra strap. I measured as directed and am at 22 1/4 inches. I have a very long ways to go yet.

I am doing well with it and have no intentions of cutting. I am at an irritating length though and need some helpful ideas of how to put it up and wear to work. Right now I dow a soft hairband. I cannot even figure how to braid.

Also if I do not wash daily my hair gets very greasy. So I am asking for all the helpful info you all can give me!

Patience is a virtue. Waiting 4h48m and then basically telling us as a whole to sit on it is appreciated.

(note the sarcasm)

Then again, if he comes back, he should be more tolerant that we people have lives and may not have seen his thread or responded to it due to various circumstances, like work, school, kids, or who knows what..., and if he doesn't, problem solved.

As such, I will not personally give a Hi! Welcome! post when this is what we get in exchange.
I hate all of the following and lots more : Fundamentalists, racists, sexists, fascists, ageists (people saying seniors = senile , kids = stupid , 18 = immature or a combo of them), and bigots for causes yet to receive their own designation.

Gosh, Anais... my first thought upon reading your 2 messages -- and noticing the timestamps -- was that a lack of patience will not serve you well... in growing your hair, in participating in a message board, or in life!

That said, I still welcome you (if you are still around to read this greeting). It's good to hear you are enthusiastic about this site. I agree -- it's a kewl place. And I wish you well on your grow-out! I've been there, done that.

I've seen women at the office (whose hair is about the same length as yours) put their hair in a variety of updos -- buns, braids and ponytails. As far as braids go, just try it, and practice. I knew nothing. I even had other people braid my hair for me since I didn't know what to do when it started getting long. Now I could easily braid my hair blind-folded.

Your hair is accustomed to being washed daily, so it is accustomed to cranking out the oil. Some weekend, try to stretch to the usual daily wash to a day and a half -- and try to stick with it during the following week. The idea is to train your scalp to go longer between washes, and in time it will adjust and produce less oil -- which is what you want. If you try this, let us know if it works for you -- okay?

Hi,

Kudos to me. I am very sorry, I truly did not mean to come off as rude. I was just taken aback that so many had viewed and read and not one replied.

Please accept my gracious apologies!

Hello Anais!

I usually come in here once or twice a week, and I really enjoy this site. I have learned a lot, and I´m sure you will too. As Dave says, braiding and bunning is all about practice. My most successful styles I came up with just playing with it absentmindedly while watching TV!

As for the greasy scalp, I have that problem too. Last fall I realized I had to stop washing it every day if it was going to get any longer, so this winter I have gone 3-4 days between washings, wearing it up in a bun most of the time. That´s fine in winter, under a hat. But now summer is coming and I find I need some other sollution. So, I´m washing it every day, but only with conditioner. It lets me massage the scalp without too much friction and all the salt from sweating (I work out while working every day) gets rinsed away. It looks way better than I could have imagined, my length seems in better condition than ever and my scalp too! So that might be worth trying for you.
