spiking hair

This may be a little late but can be a reference to anyone else wanting to spike their hair. This is my way of punk spiking it (large spikes sticking straight out). When he full dries it has kind of a rock-hard look to it, definately not the "wet look". First start out with dry hair.. blow dry if you have to. Get FreezeIt SUPER STIFF gel (panthenol b-5), it says "18 hour hold" in the front and it yellow in color. Basically you want the most stiffest gel to keep your hair up. I hear Knox gel is the best at punk spikes but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Also some people suggest bees wax (found at Genovese or any convenience/drug store) but it tends to melt more then gel on hot days and is also a bitch to wash out. Visualize how many spikes / how big you want your hair to be. Just start from the back and grab a wad of hair for each spike, get some gel and working from the base "spike" your hair [make a tight fist around the bottom of the hair and pull out]. Do this over and over until the hair stands up on its own. Then CAREFULLY continue from the back to the front until all spikes are sticking straight out (or near straight out). If a spike is particularly stubborn you can twist the spike around in a spiral which will help it stick out more. From then you can either 1)wait until it dries enough so you can go out and do whatever, or, 2) blowdry on low for 30 seconds (high heat), apply hairspray (preferably while bending over so the spikes are sticking straight out) and then blow dry for 2 minutes (high heat). If you want to use the hairspray method I suggest getting FreezeIt hairspray... the stronger the brand, the better. Good luck.
