Gel works better for most people I know... but some still say that mousse is better. The only way you`ll know for sure is if you try each one and see which holds better.

Hey! I`m a 16/f and i think that you should get the tips dyed blue and spike it up! i think that would look really hott!! i loved spiked hair on a guy!! a messy spike tho!! hope i helped!
I know this is meant to be for girls, but here goes:
First, go short round the back and sides, #2 or shorter. Stay longer on top, 3/4" and upwards. Go for the blue dye, you could get a temporary one and see how you like it. If your hair is black then it will be hard to notice but look great under direct light (as said above). Dont go for any kind of highlighting, way too overdone!
PERSONALLY, I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD GET BLUE OR RED TIPS, AND THEN JUST COMB IT FORWARD AND SPIKE THE FRONT UP. OR PUT A BUNCH OF GEL IN IT, AND MAKE IT LOOK ALL MESSY (I LOVE THAT). personally, i like the shaggy look on guys.. but only on the guys who can pull it off (thick, curly/wavy hair)! sounds like your hair doesn`t really fit that description, so if i were you i`d drop that visor thing with the bangs that like every single guy does! i think that`s getting a little old? you have straight black hair- i`d like to see it slightly gelled/moosed with a messy look- just run the stuff through your hair and dont` try to form a part, or individual spikes or anything like that... just messy! that would look y! (your hair has to be 2, 2.5 in or so) *also, just one tip: generally, if you have a longer face, long hair makes you look even thinner, so.. if you`re normal or thin already, i`d keep my hair short if i were you! and yeah.. about the spikes.. they aren`t bad looking, they`re just getting old, but some guys look really cute like that, so, it wouldn`t hurt to try!

i really like guys hair when it is gelled forward w/ the front kinda sticking up ,and your hair should have highlights ,also spiked hair looks really good
My male cousin, who is 18, has very dark brown hair (almost, if not black) and had blue dye put in. It`s very hard to see, but under direct light has a very nice effect. He also gels it forward with spikes at the front, which is a very sexy style (IMHO).
I absolutely agree with Luci(6464). Gals will ALWAYS go for guys who appear older, just a thing. If you go with a look a la Rob Thomas and let it grow a bit longer you`ll end up with a look that`s kinda common on college campuses. It looks very strong, very masculine.. and it`s really sexy. (I can hardly hold back my inner urge to run my fingers through their hair!) In the in-between time I like the blue tint idea, it`ll appear much more masculine than auburn highlights would. You might have to play with it a little while it`s growing out to avoid a look that used to be called a "skater" cut.
okay. maybe i`m in the minority, but i`m an "older" teenager and lately i`ve been going for two styles- clean-cut and basic- its really classy and not one of those trendy fads. Or, if you do want something a little different (since I think that spikes and frosts are way overdone- no offense girls!) try doing the "wing" thing- letting your hair grow longer and letting it go out on the sides. Example- Rob Thomas. Very "in", but not a style that`s overdone. Good luck!
15/f I absolutely agree with Kimmy(above). Her idea is the only way to go. But, you should also spike it on top. That would be sooooooooooo attractive.
Hey, Longer on top(about 1/2 an inch), shorter on bottom(about 1/4 of an inch) is definitely the hottest way to go. That is the most attractive look I`ve ever seen on a guy. Hope it helps See ya,
Well, the cutest guy in my class has straight hair that is really short on the sides and back but long on top. It is shiny and moves when he turns his head. It is medium brown color with a blonde streak in front. I don`t know if that style would work on anyone else or not though.

Gosh..I like to clean, straight cut hair on guys. It shows they don`t WANT to "fit it" and be "cool" and besides that, why would you want anything but masculine? Your hair sounds great the way it is!! :)
