Stef, whatever you do don`t use sun in. I have dark brown hair too and sun in makes the job uneven and it turned my hair orange. Get a stylist to do it, or pick one of those at home kits and go just a few steps lighter, so it doesn`t turn red, bronze or orange

Sun in is available at EVERY walmart in the US :) (yes other places too, im just *always* at walmart *laughs*) But DO NOT use lemon juice... it will turn your haird a weird brassy/orangy crappy color and just dry it out... if you were oging to do anything, I`d suggest using sun in on a few streaks (around your face mostly, as highlights, and where you usually get lighter in the summer) then head outside and get a tan while you lighten your hair (a hairdryer also works too :)) Good luck!

Lemon juice doesn`t really work very well and it damages your hair. Think CAREFULLY before dying your hair... I dyed mine when I was fourteen, and it took ages before it grew out. I might suggest that steaks or highlights could be better.... they don`t look bad when they are growing out.
There is a product here in Australia called sun-in, I am not sure if there is one similar in the US, but it comes in a spray bottle, and uses the sun to develop it. It is not very harsh, and adds nice highlights to hair. I think there are two strengths here, but I`d go for the weaker one, and see if you like it.
