Just some advice... you might want to put eachother`s hair in low ponytails and just cut above the elastic ... just make sure you part the front part your hair so when you cut it, it`ll be more even.

Well, I`ve decided tomarrow is the day when me and my friend get our hair chopped off by each other. As long as I don`t change my mind. We`re gonna cut each others hair up to our shoulders at night, then the next morning we`re gonna go to our appointments we made to get it finnished proffessionally. I can`t believe I`m gonna have short hair when I go back to school. I am scared but happy that my friend is doin it with me and excited for tomarrow. She is really nervous too but she wants to do it and I do too. So I`ll let you know how it goes as soon as its done. Thanks for everyone`s help.

I have my hair mid-back and love it. Mine is in layers, which is good if your hair is straight and needs more lift. I really don`t recommend cutting it all way short. I`ve done it (well, my mom did it and I screamed the entire time...this was when I was 5...very traumatic) and although it`s cute, I really prefer all the things I can do with my hair when it`s long. The shorter it is the less styles you can really do. Mid-back will do though. I still don`t really understand this desire to chop it off...I`ve never had any such yearnings...

i think you should first cut it to mid-back or something. if you still want it shorter, go a little shorter. if you STILL want it shorter, go a little shorter. this way, if you don`t like it, it wouldn`t take as long to grow it compared to if you cut it really short. and, you still have the option of doing a variety of styles and stuff.

As I said in another post, the pixie cut is gonna be the hot trend of the year-now is the time to do it! Go to an almost crewcut and get bangs too!

I think mid back length is great and I had my hair that way for many years. It would drive me crazy when my hair got long enough to get caught in my belt or pants so I never let it get much longer than that. I found my long hair easiest to deal with when it was just past my shoulder blades. You can do anything you could with longer hair but you don`t have so much weight ike you do when it is longer. Good luck and have fun.

Hi Amy,

I think the idea of cutting your friend`s hair and she cutting your hair sounds pretty fun. Send me an email and I`ll email you some pics of some shoulder length styles. Also, I know someone that buys hair if you or your friend are interested in selling your hair. My email address is: flyboy_92150@yahoo.com

Or, just click on my name above to send me an email.

Cutting your hair off can be a very traumatic experience. Any support you can get from your friends can only help!!! However, how much gets cut is up to you. Good luck.

OK, I am going to cut it, the appointment is already made for Sept. 4. I still do not exactly knowwhat to do so I need lots of replies quick. I am really nevous. Oh yeah, and does anyone think that medium styles(mid back) look good, you al seem to either like long or short. Cause I would be able to cut my hair to about mid back probobly without tears, but like shoulder length or above, I might need people there to calm me down, although girls with short hair do seem to like it.

Oh yeah. and this is another idea that my friend had. She has waste length hair and has been wanting to cut it, and she knows I do. She sais she will let me cut her hair off up to her shoulders if she can do the same to me, and then we would go get it done right at the salon. I know it sounds dumb but if my friend did it with me it would be a lot easier, I trust her, and there would be somebody else going from long to short at the same time. Let me know.

Its not that it is that tramatic, I mean I liked getting my hair cut into a pixie and thought it was really cool and liked the style. I didn`t really like the stylist cutting my hair to my shoulders when I wasn`t expecting it. And since it was already a big change, I figured i might as well cut more off. I`m just saying that I know what getting a lot of hair cut off feels like and I didn`t have the choice to make, but if you do you should take time to consider if you really want a lot of hair cut off. Cause it is definately an identity change, not so much for youyr really good friends but from people who you kinda know or meet, you are no longer a girl with long hair, you don`t stand out as much and fit in look wise more. With the pixie, there were guys who don`t like girls with real short hair like that. With hair to your thigh you are "the girl with the really long hair." But say if she got it cut up to her shoulders, she would look more like many of the other girls, or she may be "the girl with the short hair." I know we all like to think looks don`t matter but they do and it takes some gettiung used to. So I`m just saying make a careful descision before you cut your long hair.

Hi Amy,
Your hair sounds gorgeous as it is - and I`m sure gets a lot of positive attention! Others are right, don`t cut it off unless you`re really sure that is what you want to do...there`s nothing worse than having to wait those years to get your length back to where you want it! And there`s lots and lots of stuff you can do with long hair - with short, well, you just have the option of `short` and no variety of looks!

Another place you might want to look for styles is www. longhairlovers.com, where there are also messageboards filled with really supportive folk full of bright ideas - I`m sure we can come up with several styles that you`d like, and which don`t involve loss of length! And there`s www.tlhs.org, all the photos here, and the long hair support board too...lots of long hair friends who won`t confuse you! Hope you`ll keep on enjoying your long hair!

Hope this helps!
:o)

Wow, Katie, it sounds as if, no matter how much you like your short haircut, you still consider getting your hair cut a traumatic (more or less) experience. I know I recommended you to keep your hair short earlier, but since you seem to regret it so much, perhaps it would be best to grow it back again...
Ya boy

Hey, I had my waste legnth hair cut to above my shoulders by accident. And then cut it all off into a pixie, and then let it grow to my shoulders again. I can honestly tell you from my own experience that I liked it long, and it takes a long time to grow back. If you get it cut short, you will probobly get it cut shorter, cause you will again want a change and will not want to spend the time to grow it back. Don`t get me wrong I like my hair short too, but I will probobly keep it short cause I don`t know if I still have the patience to grow it. It was a little easier for me to go to a pixie from my shoulders, because i had more than a foot of hair cut off be surprise so it didn`t seem like much more. Anyway, my point is that before you cut your long hair, make sure you want to, cause yes you can grow it back, but you probobly won`t. So be careful and let me know.

Well this is what I think. I just cut my long hair pretty short an *I* really like it but I knew that it was what I wanted to do. I don`t think you should cut your hair short especially not 1/2" because you don`t sound like you are sure you want to do it and i think buzz cuts look bad on most girls anyway. Is your hair in really good condition? If it is not then I think you should cut it short enough to have really healthy ends and then practice different ways of braiding and wearing your up. It takes a lot of practice and if you have always worn your long hair the same way then you will feel dorky when you show up with your hair in a different way but it is not permanent and after a while it can be a lot of fun. So I say have fun with your long hair and then if you decide you are not having fun with it and you are sure you want to cut it then cut it short and have fun with your short hair like me. This is just my opinion.

DaveDecker: Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. My personal opinion is hair that long doesn`t look all that attractive on a girl. I just thought that going in steps instead of cutting it all off at once would be easier on her.

You know, Dave does have a point, all of the suggestions made do seem self serving. Not to criticize or anything, but how do you know that cutting off a lot of hair will make a person feel good? Your statement is more like a command than a suggestion.

Hey, DaveDecker
Are you insecure? You have to attack 3 other innocent people so you can feel "good" about your suggestion? I do believe that she asked for opinions. We all have a right to post ours. Myself and the other two did not ask for your opinion on our suggestions. We all have seen your posts in the past and for some reason you seem to "attack" other people`s suggestions. Why? I respect your opinion, but not your attacks.

I say get a friend to hold your hand and take the plunge. Get it cut to at least shoulder length with layers or maybe a chin length bob. Donate the hair to Locks of Love (this will make you feel great). You will also look great and will feel different but free from your long hair!
Keep us informed.

"Donate the hair to Locks of Love (this will make you feel great)."

Really? Why?

It will surely enrich the coffers at LoL... but do they need it?

Before donating to LoL or any charity, do research to find out if they truly need your donation.

Can you state with any degree of certainty that LoL needs more hair? I`m sure you can`t, because I *have* done my homework.

And given your nickname, I`m surprised that your prescription didn`t include lightening the color of her hair.
