its not the only way to get them out...on this site on one of ask karen`s columns (can`t remember which one) has some info to get it out.
one way is to use old wax paper and stick the dread in between it and iron. Another way is to stick the dread in like REALLY hot water and then scrub the wax out...i`ll try to find the url soon

try some of the knotty boy kits that hairboutique has.
but becareful with dreads they are almost permanent (only reason why its almost is because its possible to remove, but it might as well be impossible hehe)
