Kristen,
How short are your layers and how long is the rest of the length? What you might want to try before chopping it all off is to cut some of the length off and that might make the layers more manageable. Also pay the money to go to a professional salon and the stylist can give you ideas on the best cut for you depending on your situation.
Also, I hope your date likes you for you and not for your hair style. Its about whats on the inside and what you want.

Well, kris, when is your dance? How long is your hair now? When are you planning on cutting it? How short do you think it will be? It`s nice that you are keep it long for your date, but he should you for you not your hair length, but if you want to keep it long for the dance for a particular style then you should definitly do that. Take care & good luck.
I hate these layers, I pull my hair up and half of it falls out. Also it looks way too choppy, like all uneven and just stupid. As soon as my dance is over I am cutting my hair short. I want to now but I want enough hair for the dance to be able to style. Plus i know my date really liked my long hair, and would probobly like my semi long hair if styled right better than short hair. But I am discusted with what they did to my hair at the salon and need to change it even if it means means parting with the hair I have left.
