Sili-cones, Tobi.
Make every day you have count, before the time comes for you to count every day you have.

Thanks Susan!

That's good advice.

Your hair, by the way, is very pretty!

Hi Hi:

I love wearing my hair down. Men love it, some women hate it. Do I really care what the other women like - Not!

Wear your hair however you enjoy it.

Susan.

Like eKatherine, I believe it is all down to how much you hair tends to tangle. And we are all different, I think. Personally, I look like a rats nest after a night out, unless I put some serious shine and gleam in there - something I would never do for just another day "at the office". And since some keep long hair for the joy of wearing it down, like the Asian Invasion, so why shouldn´t they? Personally, I keep it long for the joy of wearing it up!

We all want great, healty hair, but don´t let it get in the way of how you really want to wear it.

At least for me, the damage from wearing hair down is directly caused by having to untangle giant amorphous pre-dreads, AKA mats. Since I stopped wearing that favorite fuzzy pullover, started CO washing and oiling, had the tangly damaged ends trimmed out, and made sure I detangle as often as I need to I haven't had too much trouble. But it's much easier wearing the hair up, because then there are no tangles to undo.

The kids at school asked my why I don't wear my hair down, and I said I'd need to be brushing it all the time, like every hour. They couldn't believe it, some of the coarse curlies with bsl hair don't need to detangle at all.

Actually, the back nape section isn't exposed to anything at all when my hair is up, so there's no possible source of damage.

Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

I wear my hair down simply because, if I go through all the trouble of growing it out, I want people to see my length! =P People give me tons of compliments when I wear my hair down and curl it or something. It's fun!

Although, clothing friction is kind of bad, I hear, but I use heavy conditioners that have cones in them more often than not.

Hi SF

IMHO it depends on your hair type and whether you use cones (and I remember you went cone free). Mine is not only coarse but also somewhat "protected" by a layer of cone... so I wear it down more often than not, except when wearing wool coats or sweaters. I get very little damage, but that's not to say damage can't happen to YOU.

The other thing is getting tangles, so if your hair is difficult to detangle or snaps when detangling, then you're probably better off putting it up.

Either way, there's pros and cons... Fia put up a thread on the other board, if you want to go do a search. Also, as your hair gets longer it'll of course be easier to put up anyway.

Brightest blessings :)

I'm curious.

Is wearing your hair down most of the time really bad for it?

I can see how maybe it might protect the length if it were up, but then the underside is exposed.

Also, except for using a faux-suede scrunchie, if my hair is up, it seems there is some tension being put on it somewhere.

I think braids are good but I am having problems with the shortest old bangs sliding out, as my hair is very slippery.

So I wear it down most of the time. Do I need to be wearing it up more to protect it?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

TIA,
