I sincerely ask you to re-consider your approach.

Your son`s hair is his own. It is part of his body and personal to him. Please do not turn his hair into a battle-ground.
Let him do as he pleases, expressing himself as he chooses. He will find his own identity in his own time. Any imposition of hair-cut/style from someone close, especially when it is against his own wishes has a negative effect. How can it not?
You are saying that his hair is your territory - not his. This will make him struggle with the decision to either keep his power or hand it over to you (I know it sounds wierd - indulge me).
If he detaches from his hair by letting you take ownership, something in terms of personal confidence dies. He gives you control over his body and he is divested of choice - weakened.

Arm your hero, let him be strong and self-reliant. Nurture him with your love and understanding.

No offense meant...it`s just that I`ve been there.

Best regards
Uzi

Please do not antagonize your son. He should be allowed to do what he wants
with his own hair. This is a pretty trivial issue anyway, but looking as you like
is important to a person.

Let him grow his hair out long, and then you will have all kinds of styles to pick from. He will love all the differnt styles to pick from, braids, updos, buns, piig tails, and you will have a good time doing his hair for school or whatever. lynn

yea, i love my mom sooo much, but she drives me nuts about my hair. right now its longer bangs in front, and short and spiky in the back..and she nags me about it constantly, even though i love my hair! if i ever want to get a hair cut, shes like, you will look so much different than other people! Im like What happened to being an individual? i have been individual my whole life, ive never tried to be like anyone else to fit it, and i have many friends who like me for me-anyway shes always saying my hair makes me look "freaky"...puhleaze.....my friends all look like i do-short spiky hair, piercings, and whatever...i think its just a mum`s nature to pester their kids about their apperance- im sure the mums themselves rebelled when they were younger, and did what they wanted to do! so i think he should just do it the way he wants it done!

Hey! Its really sweet that you`re trying to help your son like this, but I have a suggestion; let him do what he wants with his hair. I know it probably won`t be something that you like, but twelve years old is a strange and difficult age, and it only gets wierder from there (I`m 16, and still in the thick of it!). I don`t know what your son is like, but I know that when I was 12, I did NOT want my mom`s help with the way I looked; I love my mom more than anyone else in the world, but I needed to start figuring out who I was independent of her (I`m still working on this), and your son might feel the same way. I`m sure he loves you tons, but he might also be feeling like he has to become his own person, and one of the first ways people establish that is with their personal style. Make suggestions, but don`t be offended if he doesn`t take them...I never did what my my mom wanted me to do with my hair! I`m not in the least trying to be critical, just making a suggestion.
As far as finding styles...that`s kinda tough. Most of the sites that have hair galleries are mostly for females, but there are a few men`s styles on this site (go to the Hairstyle Galleries). Instead, maybe try looking into the other things that influence him; music, TV, movies, whatever. Maybe you could find something there that will look good on him and that you`ll like as well.
Anway, hope I could help. You sound like a really good mom :)

Love,
Ingrid
If I had wings then I could take you in
I'd stay on the ground and show you some things
The grass is strewn with blades of gold
all sights and sounds I have been told
all hopes, desires, seem to sing

be prepared to wait like days more likely even weeks before you get even a reply. I have experience this on this forum its so cruel... :(

anyway i dont have the answers your looking for but most teens spike their hair anyway when their short. Since its curly why doesnt he cut it short and and do that? some of my hair curls when their longer so annoying.. :(

if your son wants it flat do you not like that? Why not let him try making it flat maybe he prefers a flat look?

sorry not much help but just giving u a reply. :)

I am a mom, don`t skip over me yet tho, I need help finding a style for my 12 yo boy who would just as soon cut it all down to a quarter inch long. He has a long oval face, dark hair that would curl if he let it grow, but he is forever trying to comb it flat. He is sure I am evil in trying to find a new style for him, and any advice would be helpful. Any place we could look at teen hairstyles on the net? I was just thinking maybe a new style would add to his nice features instead of just framing his face. Help...
