It might look gothic. If you don't want it to look that way, then stay away from unnatural black.

I dunno about the black on the ends, but I have done my hair dark, kind of gothic red before, both with punkish Hot Topic dyes and Hydrience. It looked good on me, went well with my pale pink-hued skin, but it always faded pretty quickly, so even if it looks goth-y at first, it won't soon enough.
More awesome than a manatee!
