Sorry to hear about your bad haircut. Unfortunately it happens to the best of us.

As a general rule of thumb, hair grows 1/2 inch per month. Hair growth is determined by genetics and contributing to hair growth success includes, but is not limited to: nutrition, vitamins, stress levels in your life (some experts debate this), environmental factors, overall health, amount of sleep & even how much water or liquids you drink every day.

Hair tends to grow faster in the summer because of the increase in available Vitamin D to many people. There are other factors that contribute to increased hair growth in the Summer but as a general rule, it does tend to grow a little faster than in the winter for many people.

Gel & other styling products do not prevent hair from growing nor do they stunt growth. However, their is some indication that using products that tend to suffocate the root of the hair MAY cause the follicles to become damaged over time and thus contribute to pre-existing genetic codes for hair loss or slow hair growth.

Are there things you can do to help hair growth? Yes. Although it is virtually impossible to grow more than 1/2 to 1 inch of hair per month (unless you get add-on extensions) with the right diet, nutrition, vitamins, sleep, fluids...etc. You can grow hair at its maximum potential rate.

Keep in mind that sometimes hair goes into temporary shock after it is cut. It might actually be in a "resting" mode for a few days or up to a week. So part of the lack of growth you have been experiencing may be partly related to that.

If you are concerned about gel or other styling products stunting your hair growth pattern, give hair a rest 1x or 2x a week from styling products. Also, use a clarifying shampoo 1-2x a month to remove buildup.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,
Karen Shelton
