Thanks deltagirl and goldilocks! If you have any trouble doing the twist, let me know and I will try to help. (That also helps me know if my site is comprehensive or lacking in description!)

I've actually seen this done. Demonstrated right before my very eyes. A GM-trained stylist, working with a woman whose hair was fine, superthick and classic-length, created a french twist in about 10 seconds -- seemingly without effort. The trick is to mentally divide the length from nape to ends in half; with one hand, hold the hair at the midway point, and with the other hand, bring the hair back to the head. Then, the hand at midway point twists and brings it into the head. It was perfectly done and looked natural (though the twist was fairly large, of course).

I was thinking about people with longer hair saying theirs won't stay...I wonder if you use a lot of elastics in it, making one long stiff "thing", then rolled it up and french twisted it, would it stay? It seems like it would help, then you'd just need sticks to shove through the seam and elastics for hold... But I won't know till mine gets there! Thanks for the compliment!
I've had trouble putting my hair in anything resembling a French twist, as anyone who has long thick hair does. If I do it the traditional way, where you twist it up from the bottom, it looks great up to the crown, where I have a 2' straight ponytail with no place to put it. (This is where the directions say, "Pile the ends lightly on top...") I've folded it multiple times and worked it until it's all under the roll, but then it's more like a lumpy pillow than a twist. It's still hard to get anything to hold it in place, as it's fighting to be free.
Just not meant to be. Too much hair.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

Susan, your hair is just beautiful! I just love the color, too. So rich and unique. I think you could go a long time between trims, and even then, you could do with only 1/4" trims. Do you know someone you can trust do that?

Thanks for sharing, Susan :) You have really gorgeous hair; and the perfect length for twists. I totally envy your ability to do a french twist... because mine won't last in one for five seconds!
I've been having such fun with my french twists I thought I'd share my method for doing it (remember, learning how to do it right was my new years resolution!). I've found several sites online with instructions for how to do it, but none that really worked that well for my length of hair, so why not one more, right?
