Hi Paul,I am a diabetic and an octo-lacto vegetarian (no meat but I eat dairy products) My body and sugar levels have greatly improved after I became one.As with anything you might want to see your doctor about taking any vitamins. You might already be lacking or have excess in one or more and he/she can recommend a good combination that will suit your individual body.If you follow a good veggie diet and exercise on a regular basis, your hair will be better than ever. Mine sure is! I can't believe the difference when I started looking after myself.Best Of Luck!Robin-Ann

If you don't, your hair will suffer. However, beyond normal amounts, extra protein is not going to do your hair any good - the excess will just be excreted. Furthermore, the consumption of excess protein has been linked with the loss of bone mass because calcium is excreted along with the metabolites from the excess protein. There is no need to eat meat for hair growth. Make sure you get enough protein, and the right vitamins and minerals, and your hair will do fine. I'm vegetarian - I have been since before I started growing out my hair - and I don't have any trouble with it. I do eat milk and egg products, but no other animal products. My hair is a little on the dry side, but it has always been that way, even before I gave up meat. (Yes, I was a dry-haired baby, too. That's just the way my hair is. My mother's hair is also dry.)Laura Jane lswanson@sunflower.bio.indiana.edu
Hi Paul,I was vegan and am now predoninately a veg-head. I started eating eating fish once or twice a month a couple of years ago and use eggs (from free range and grain fed happy chickens) in my baking. I don't eat dairy not because I don't like it, but because dairy doesn't like me (bloating). One really excellent book on vegetarianism is Laurel's Kitchen. They have tables in the back with nutritional information on all sorts of food as well as nutritional guidelines. Another fun book is The Farm Cookbook which has lots of high protein recepies as well as lots of pitures of long haired residents of The Farm. Eat lots of whole grains, beans, fruits and vegetables. Include Soy products into your diet and have fun experimenting. There are lots of vegetarian recepies on the web. Just type in vegetarian on a web browser and start printing them off.Remember that a healthy diet is a healthy diet whether you eat meat or not. And eating a healthy diet generally means that you will be a healthy person.
