I feel for you, I just had the same thing happen. I cried every night for a week. I had all one length past the middle of my back, and got it chopped, one layer to my shoulders, one layer at my chin. I have asked the same questions you have, my response was keep it moist and warm, example wet it go in the sun or wet it go in a sauna. Good luck it takes one year to grow six inches , so my wait is December 1999.

Hi - I have to agree with the last post - the best way to prevent a stylist from chopping off your locks is to have someone else trim them. I have my significant other trim mine (when I trim, which isn't very often). He's as committed as I am to my growing it out, and when he trims it, you can barely see any hair on the floor at all. I think he truly knows what 1/16" means, and since he's reluctant to trim it at all, I get the best possible results. I am only trimming it these days to even up the bottom, and I'm about ready to give up on that and just let it grow wild for a year or so. I find, by very careful measuring, that it grows the same rate whether I trim it or not, and getting the split ends off doesn't seem to make a difference. So I just leave it alone, condition the daylights out of it daily, and stay the heck away from salons. The only place I'd consider going for a cut is Louise-Marie Longhairs in Toronto, and since Toronto is a long way from where I live, I may never get there. If you read her pages, it sounds like she really knows how to trim long hair. Maybe after another 8 months or so I might be able to get to Toronto. By then my hair should be almost to my waist. And it has been a LONG, LONG wait!Deb

> What a mistake...never> let anyone with short hair near your hair with> scissors!!!!I'm so sorry to hear both of you have had such bad experiences. Good luck in getting your hair to grow back quickly! As for not letting anyone with short hair cut it, I really can't agree. My husband and my mother both have short hair, and they're the only people I will let trim mine. The trick is to find someone who is very committed to your long hair, and sometimes people with short hair really do support others who want to wear theirs long. I know if I ever got mine cut short, my husband and my mother would both be upset, so I know I can trust them to do tiny little trims. You might try taking a friend with you to the salon when you go for a trim. They can provide support to keep you from being pressured into a drastic change, and they can watch the stylist while he or she cuts. (This is especially useful if, like me, you can't see 2 inches without your glasses!)Good luck finding a better stylist, or just a friend who can trim for you!Laura Jane lswanson@sunflower.bio.indiana.edu

Miranda: I am truly sorry that you got such a bad deal from the stylist. To read that you have been in tears, really makes me feel bad for you. It sounds like the stylist went wild..to cut your hair off in a bob. That's definitely not a trim. If you want your hair to grow, you will have to go in a salon for your trims with an attitude like this is how much I want taken off and that's it!! I went about a month ago for a trim, I let it be known as soon as I walked in the door that I wanted a stylist who could follow directions and one who could trim thick hair. When I sat down in the chair, I held up my fingers to show the amount I wanted off and I said.. I mean it.. no more than that. With that kind of attitude, I don't think the stylist would start in with trying to talk me into a new style.. If you truly want your hair to grow long, you will have to protect it like something precious.. that's why it's nice to have someone you can trust to do your trims. With the short hairstyles that are out there right now, the stylists are programmed to whack off hair. It's scary! Do some research in your area to try to find a long hair friendly salon..they are out there. I have found one, tho they are expensive. $25.00 for just a trim but if your mission is long hair, it would be worth it for peace of mind. By Nov. 1999.. God willing, your hair should be nice and long again.. Cher>> Hi Tiara..> I would really be interested to hear what> anyone has to say about this. I'm not familiar with the area, so I am not sure if this helps you. You could contact them directly, to see if they know of any other salons similar to theirs close to where you live. The URL is enchantress.com. There is an address, and telephone number listed at the site, or you could e-mail them. The owners names are Lance and Jody, and they were kind enough to mail an order form to me, since I don't havea printer. Good luck!Lisa :-)

I just made the mistake of cutting my hair (12 inches- OUCH!), and am already trying to grow it back. I was wondering if there are any foods I should eat/vitamins I should take to help my hair grow faster. Any suggestions? I want long hair again as soon as possible! Also, do you know of any long hair specialists in the Cleveland, OH area? I have HAD it with traditional stylists!Tiara
