Hi Darcy,I will give you my opinion and then hopefully the others here may give you some helpful advice.I am not sure of your hair history, but I can tell you that perms can be stressful for the hair because the chemicals alter the composition of the hair cuticle. Without looking at your hair and talking to you in person, I would recommend that you do a lot of conditioning to work at restoring your hair to its pre-perm condition. Please remember that patience will be required because it does take some time for the hair to recover from damage. The best approach when there is chemical induced damage is to find the best hair care products you can afford. In your case I would recommend that you use Aveda Shampure and that with your thin hair you are careful to apply only as much shampoo as you need to get a small amount of lather.I would recommend that you do a daily deep conditioner treatment in the shower and that you alternate between Aveda Deep Conditioner and Aveda Curessence.I would also recommend that you follow Cher's conditioning tips and apply the Curessence to towel dried hair and then apply hot towels to help the conditioner soak into your hair shaft.I would also suggest that you experiement with leave-in conditioners (Aveda's Elixer) which soak into the actual hair cuticle and seals it from environmental toxins and pollution. At this point I would suggest that you consider you hair very fragile and that you work at keeping it conditioned. Chemical processing can definitely dry out the hair and in your case it caused it to break (which is unfortunate). If your hair is brittle at the ends, you may want to consider have a trim to remove the most damaged parts of the hair. Once hair is split or damaged, nothing will repair it and the only option is a trim.I am not sure that using a reconstructor would help you at this point. I personally would go the conditioning route. You can also benefit from hot olive oil treatments where you apply warm extra virgin olive oil to your dry hair, wrap it in plastic and then apply a warm or hot towel and let the oil soak into your hair. I would recommend leaving this on for at least an hour. Then shampoo with Aveda Shampure (which is the most moisturizing) and then apply Deep Conditioner, do a cold water final rinse to close the hair shaft and then possibly use Aveda Elixer as a leave in.Since your hair is very fragile right now I would strongly discourage the use of blow dryers, hot rollers or any heated hair appliances. I would also condition every day and use a leave in, if that is not too much for your thin hair.I would suggest you avoid volumizing products since this roughs up the hair shaft and that is the last thing you need right now.I would also recommend stepping up your daily dose of Vitamins B, E and C which will help do some internal work.If you don't want to mess with the olive oil, you might want to try Aveda's Beautifying Oil which is expensive, but worth every cent. It is on sale right now at the WW Beauty, so you can at least get it for a good price.I know that there are other excellent hair care products on the market that could do well for you, however, I can not guarantee any of them for recovering damage except Aveda which I have personally had experience and great results with.I am so sorry that you are having problems with your hair. There is nothing worse than struggling to find the right answer when you are getting opposing information.Good luck and if you have further questions feel free to email me.Warm regards,Karen> I have thin hair and recently haid a perm> to give it more volume.Well, the perm caused breakage> and now my hair`seems to have no "spring".> Every beautcian I speak to tells me something> diffent.I'm confused on what products to be using.> Do I need moisture, reconstuctors, or what?
