Hey Jennifer,I completely understand what your going through, I used to swim every day! There is hope without spending a ton of money. You have two options, you can look in the phone book for a local beauty college and get them to give you a conditioning treatment, our school charges $3-5 dollars, it's cheap and you can't mess up a conditioning treatment. Your other option is to buy a professional conditioning treatment like Paul Mitchells "Super Charge", or Wellas "Vital Signs". Your probably looking at around $14 dollars for a tube but if your truly interested in babying your hair you can treat it once a week and the product will last awhile. Also a few hair saving tips when your swimming...-always wet your hair with tap water before getting in the chlorinated water, this will fill up the hair strand with the tap water allowing less of the chlorine to soak in.-if you can wear a swim cap, it may not be fashonable but it should be because it definately saves your hair from the straw syndrome!-after swimming use a clarifying shampoo and then deep condition. Clarifying shampoos reach further into the hair shaft to cleanse therefore removing more of the chlorine, and the conditioner will will add in needed moisture (side note: if you have a demi or semi permanent color (color that washes out in 4-6shampoos or wks) a clarifying shampoo will strip out some of the color).P.S. Be carefull swimming if your drunk. We've had several people drown recently here in North Carolina who had been drinking and swimming, it was pretty sad!
Jeez... it had to happen sometime. :-PMy hair has been in really good condition lately... I've been babying it for around a year now and it's been soft and relatively tangle free... a long ways from the tangles and mats it develops when it's in good condtion. And then I made a biiiig mistake. Saturday my friend had a pool party and I got all drunk and never got around to washing the chlorine out of my hair until sunday morning. Now it's in horrible condition again... all straw like at the ends and tangling. :-[ I've tried hot oil, but it didn't help much. Anyone have any other suggestions to reverse the damage? If nothing else I can go to the salon and have a deep conditioning treatment, but they're VERY pricey.-jj
