Ruth,The difference between light and dark is that too go lighter you either have to bleach or use a high level of peroxide of the hair. Unfortunately this can leave hair dry and dull. When you darken you do not have to take any color off the hair, you just have to put color on. That takes away the harshest part of coloring. Also going darker will make your hair shinier and softer than bleaching will. It has to do with a whole lot of chemistry, science, light reflection, etc.etc.etc. which can be very time consuming and difficult to explain in writing. Hope that kinda answered your questions.Angel 0:)> Can your hair get more or less damaged depending> on what color dye you use?> A couple years ago, my brother grew his dark> brown hair long and dyed it blond. Can your hair get more or less damaged depending on what color dye you use?A couple years ago, my brother grew his dark brown hair long and dyed it blond. It really damaged it-it looked and felt like a straw pile. After a couple of months, he got tired of it and shaved the whole thing off. Since then, he grew his hair long again and a few days ago dyed it a deep burgundy-black color. His hair looks so shiny and healthy now-it looks better now then before he dyed it, I told him. He said, after his girlfriend dyed his hair, she really over-conditioned it.I have seen many woman with severely damaged hair from dyeing it blond. Are darker hair colorings more gentle?
