Big Hair 2--the never-ending quest

Since the response I got to my Q was cry for help was to get a relaxer (and I would have to relax it more than every six motns, I think), does anyone know of relaxers that are less toxic and gentler than the ones that I have seen (most use lye or base--and that's harsh!). Maybe something naturally based? I am reluctant to use anything harsh on my hair. Can anyone help?
