Teresa, I do a kind of modified French Twist that ends up being a double twist kind of thing. I start with a ponytail slipped over my right shoulder and begin twisting forward (this is important to keep the twist smooth) from the nape of the neck till near the end. Twisted up, I'm able to reach closer to the end of the hair. I twist fairly tightly or it will unroll. Holding this twist with the right hand, grab it about halfway down by looping the left index finger around the hair and fold it in half. Now you're holding your ends at the nape of your neck and you have your finger around the twist to make a loop. Now twist towards the back using this loop simultaneously tucking the ends into the lovely French twist that is forming at the back of your head. I keep twisting till its all tucked under (you'll quickly be able to let go of the ends as they slip under the twist) then bring the original loop around to the bottom of the twist and slip a hairstick in through the top loop just formed by that action and out through the bottom loop that I've been holding all along. I slip a second stick in for a more secure hold. With some practice it can look very smooth and only takes a minute or so to do. It makes a conventional French twist with a side twist for the extra length. Have fun!Best wishes to all,Dawn

Hi Laura Jane.I'm sorry to say that I don't really remember how I managed it. It's been about seven years. I don't think that there were any special tricks invloved, just lots of twisting, folding, and tucking, and even more bobby pins.Teresa

How did you manage it when your hair was waist-length? That's where mine is now, and I haven't been able to get it to stay in a French twist for quite a while - there's just too much of it.Laura Janelswanson@sunflower.bio.indiana.edu

Hello. I have a question for everyone. Are any of you with really long hair able to achieve a French twist? If so, could you please tell me how you do it?French twists are one of my favorite hair styles, but I haven't been able to manage one for some years now. It was fairly simple when my hair was waist to hip length, but now that my hair is to my knees, I just can't get it to work. Does anyone have any secret tips or tricks to get all their hair to fit without looking like Ivana Trump? Or even any way to make it all stay in place and not slide around? I've tried just about every styling tool and gimick that I could find, but none of them have worked so far. Thanks,Teresa
