I personally would not recommend that you do this for a couple of reasons. One, if the two colors clash you could wind up with orange, green or even purple hair that would be difficult to get rid of.Two, using any type of color or coloring process that includes bleach puts you at risk for some change to the hair cuticle. Applying color over color could possibly do some damage to your hair. It could also cause dryness or breakage. It could also alter the primary color. If they do it on TV it is possible that they are first applying a bleach to remove color and then applying a second application of the chunky blonde colors.Any color application that is complicated in any way, such as applying color to color, or adding chunks to colored hair, in my opinion, should only be done by a professional. At least the first few times so that you can access the risks and avoid a potential problem. If you want chunks, go to a professional and have it done once or twice. Ask lots of questions, take notes, ask what the potential dangers are and the risks, and then you can even ask what over the counter products might do the trick for you. That gets you the colors your want with minimum risk.Best wishes,Karen> I color my own hair using a variety of brands of> permanent color. I color my own hair using a variety of brands of permanent color. I have medium to dark brown hair which I lighten usually using something like light ash blonde. The latest product I used was Revitalique. I wanted to use Feria, but it said not recommended for grey coverage...and I do have some grey...so I didn't get it. My question is: after I have applied this permanent product to get the base color I want...can I then go back and use one of the highlighting products to get some chunky highlights? I see them do this on the "makeover" shows on TV...but I wonder if it's safe to do it at home? Thank you!
