Hi,Sometimes hormonal changes will impact the hair and may cause some increased hair loss. There are other things that can do it like prescriptions drugs, thyroid problems ( a very common symptom is increased hair loss) or extra stress, fatique or poor eating habits.I would suggest a good medical checkup and mention the hairloss to your doctor and ask to have your thyroid checked as well as your hormone levels. Women start to have hormonal changes as early as their mid 30s. Sometimes earlier. However, the impact to the hair seems to manifest the most in the 40s and later. If you have more questions...please post.Best wishes,Karen> I have been growing my hair long. That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)

Also when I wash my hair it seems there are times when the wad is somewhat sizeable. Karen posted recently that we normally lose 50-100 strands a day. That's alot really. You may want to try one day to count all the hairs you find just to see if you fall within this range. Also as women in our 40's, hormones play a big part in our hair . You stated your hair is thick ..so is mine, so as long as I have plenty of hair ...I am not going to worry about what I lose. I am growing my hair longer too and I think alot of it is the extra length of the hairs...that it makes it look like more. If you notice any thinning....then it's time to take action!! best regards.. Cher

I share your loss, Kathie (pun unintended). For several months, I found my thick hair everywhere too, including my pillow. I have found hair goes thru a shedding phase since I am not expereincing that much loss now, only when I brush my hair, though loose hairs do still appear on my shoulders. Apparently, it is normal to lose between 40-100 hairs a day, but of course we'd like to keep most of those on our head to begin with! I am not sure if yours is also going thru this phase, but I'd like you to take heart it isn't a long term problem, unless you do have an underlying cause.
