I've pondered this too. I think it is because it is much less common for a man to choose "beauty" as a carreer and therefore probably take the calling more seriously. Also, since female hairstylists come a dime-a-dozen, a male hairstylist is more novelty. I don't mind this a bit. I think a person earns according to how hard they strive for excellence. There are more hair problems out there than there are competant hairstylists to fix them. I have seen many wonderful female "platform artists" and I think that there are more men who are famous and educators because,(now don't get mad at me, its true) women are more often tied down with kids. But hey, wich is the more honorable calling?
I have heard that male cosmetologists make more money than women do is that true? My instructor told me this after the shock wore off when I walked in the room. I am the only male student she has had in the 21 years she has been teaching.
I think it probably is true though I'm not sure. I'm not sure what the definition of 'cosmetoligist' is. I know many of the big names in hair care are male eventhough there may be many more unknown females.
