Wow, this is a complicated problem to advise on a message board. You could set up several appt.s for consiltations (typically free) just state that you are at a color crossroad and most good stylist would be happy to advise you. After hearing more than one opinion, use your own better judgement. Based on what you have said, I will give you a suggestion that may help you compare to other opinions. I would weave out the previous highlights and lighten just the regrowth to match. Then I would use a semi-permanent toning color over all to give a nice red tone. Then I would recommend using a color maintenence product like Aveda color conditioner in appropriate shade like Anatto, Bixa, or Madder Root. There are many other lines, usually haircolor brands offer, to do at home periodic mantainence. When you get tired of the look then you need to seek a whole new plan. You have gone this far with cignificant investment, I hate to see you go right back to the natural before you have had much chance to wear and enjoy the look you have now,(sans the regrowth). As far as product, is your hair weak, or rough and dull? If weak, some good things to try: Aveda Curessence, Grahm Web Intensives. If rough and dull, Aveda Deep Penatrating High Energy Hair Revitalizer, Framesi Biogenal Reconditioner.

Hi ! I know this message is long but please help!!!!I recently decided to colour my black virgin hair for different look so being very cautious first opted for a colour rinse in a bright red as my hairdresser advised that there was no way the colour would be as red on my dark hair. Well, the colour rinse made the roots on top and fringe area a nice copper reddish colour and absolutely nothing happened at the end or the back. Well, I did like the new colour as it softened my whole face but was a bit wary of bleaching my entire head as my hair was in a good condition with lots of body and shine eventhough I relaxed it every 6 months or so to make it easier to blow dry. I opted for lots and lots of chunky highlights and a bright red colour rinse to minimise the damage. Well anyway everyone loved the new me - except everytime they see me - I look different 'cos the color rinse is washing out fastand my highlights are going lighter and lighter !The highlights did dry out my hair a bit so I cut off the ends to sholulder length - but now what do I do ? Lighten & tint my hair to the colour I had and risk damage ? I don't like the contrast of blondish higlights amongst all this black hair which is what I have now... Would tinting it back to black be less damaging to making it that light brown colour ( like Mariah Carey ) . Also, I've been told to use Redken's CAT to strengthen my hair. What products would you advise to minimise the damage ?
