Several people have suggested jojoba oil, where do you find it and does it make hair feel greasy or weigh it down?

I read the post about the woman who said her hair was growing faster on her head and on her legs. Truly amazing. There are definitely different sources of protein than red meat. I enjoy tuna very much. I wanted to tell you that I have found salmon, rainbow trout and bass to be particularly good for the taste buds and hair growth.Take care and happy growing!Jade21

Do you do> the hundred strokes a night thing? You can visit Aubrey Organics at www.aubrey-organics.com or call 1-800-AUBREY H for a color catalog. Aubrey's products are available at most health food stores and some mail order places. I do the mail order thing through a place called the Vitamin Shoppe which has discounts of 20-30% on most of Aubrey's products. Visit at www.vitaminshoppe.com or call the toll free number there to receive a catalog, too. The Blue Green Algae line of products includes the hair and facial mask along with a body and facial moisturizer. It is one of Aubrey's newer lines, within the past year or so. It's a wonderful line.I don't know how to describe a paddle-style hairbrush. It is made of nylon, although it can be made of other material and has rounded spikes as bristles and should not have harsh knobs at the end of the spikes as Karen has mentioned many times. Conair recently came out with some wonderful ones. I purchased mine at a local drug store for about $5.00.If you go back to the archives of Hair Boutique, you will find some messages from me about what I think is an effective way to brush and also that you should clean your brushes regularly. I don't do the hundred strokes per night thing. I started very slowly and built up to an appropriate number for my hair. I mainly wanted to brush to spread the sebum through my hair which can get dry, especially in the winter. I also wanted to stimulate my scalp, but I have to say this was not my major goal.I know what you are saying about the dry ends thing and breakage and then not getting the benefit of your natural hair growth. I don't know whether you take any vitamins or supplements, but I have to say that Vitamin C virtually eliminated my breakage-that in conjunction with the Aubrey products. The reason I give the Vitamin C credit is that I started to notice a difference in the split ends in about two to three weeks. Then, what I started doing on a regular basis was to put a very small amount of jojoba oil on my ends at night. That worked like a charm. One of the ladies here had suggested that.Bye for now,Jade21

Jade, I just wanted to tell you that I found your tip on not eating red meat in Riquette's book! She said to either completely cut it out or at least limit it to once a week. To tell you the truth, after reading your post and her book, I'm totally cutting it out of my diet. There are other forms of protein -- looks like that tuna in my cupboard will finally be eaten! -- and I'm *desperate* to grow my hair out. So. . .thank you for this and your other tips!By the way, I've been taking Viviscal for about two weeks now (maybe a little less) and I think it really is doing some good. I hope that a growth spurt occurs soon!

This is a really interesting topic to me since I'm doing the growing my hair out thing again for the third time in as many years. My problems is that although my hair usually grows fairly quickly, I can never manage to either keep a style I like long enough for it to grow past my shoulders (which is my growth wall limit) or when it starts to get past my shoulders I seem to get split or dry, dry ends so that I need several inches cut off. I was wondering where Jade21 found the Aubrey's Organics products, especially the sea weed mask. Also, what is a paddle brush? Do you do the hundred strokes a night thing?

I know that> sometime (this is typical for me)> if you don't handle your hair in a certain way it hits> this 'wall'Hi, K.!The Hair Growth Wall.I like that term. It has the makings of an excellent article. Anyway, I know what you're saying. It's like you think you've been doing all the "right" things, you've seen some progress, but you look in that mirror and you say, "Grow already." Instant gratification seems like it's a long time coming. That was me before this past summer. My hair normally grows fast, but my own personal preference was to do everything I could to push it to the limits.> and won't grow past it. So I want to know from people> out there> what specific technique (combing, brushing, extra deep> conditioning) they> have to do in order to achieve the growth their> looking for. Before the heart of the summer, I thought I had found the real thing for my hair and that was consistent brushing. It responded like a person who'd been deprived of water. I was spreading that sebum through my hair and giving my scalp some real stimulation. Between a paddle on a regular basis and an occasional boar bristle brush, I had added something to my routine which really worked. With the heat and humidity, my hair was more than thriving. Then, one day I really noticed a difference. I had gotten a substantial amount of growth in a very short period and wondered what I was doing so that I could keep doing it.It was a diet without any red meat. I never ate that much, maybe four times a month I might have a burger or make a meatloaf for my boyfriend. I noticed that the quality of the growth was better and that with excellent hair care products (yea, Aubrey Organics:)), I was smashing, not just throwing pieces of the "Wall" to smithereens. I also have to thank Karen for her tip on those sea vegetables. That seaweed salad from Fresh Fields tastes great and feeds my hair some excellent nutrients. I also have to say that experimenting with different combinations of vitamins, minerals, and supplements added an additonal punch.> Is this making sense?> I'll start. I usually put my hair in a braid every> day.> I've noticed when I limit the amount of time it is in> a braid> I see more growth. Like when I don't sleep with one,> or wear> my hair loose but confined during the day, etc..I should also say that the addition of jojoba, wheat germ and olive oil to my regular hair care routine has kept my normal to dry hair in good shape. Moreover, I think my hair likes to hang like loose to encourage growth. A loose braid is fine anytime and a satin cap is essential at night. THe cap deters snarls and keeps hair soft and smooth. I would not be without a drawer full of them. The other external thing which I have added is a monthly pre-shampoo conditioning treatment. It's the Blue Green Algae Hair Mask by Aubrey Organics. As I have said previously, it packs a mighty punch with nutirents and leaves your hair full of shine, body, and strength. It's usually two to three days before the extra body drops from your hair. I've gotten to the point where the only place I use the stuff is from my scalp to the nape of my neck. I need the nutrients, not the body:)I think I should ask people here for suggestions on alternate hair styles. Maybe my hair care regimen has gotten me into a hairstyle rut:)Take care and bye for now.Jade21

Okay over the past couple of months I've noticed a lot of peoplewanting to grow their hair long, out, healthy, and so on.What I wanted to know of all those people what regimen, notnecessarily product, have they found to really be beneficialto the way their hair is responding. I know that sometime (this is typical for me)if you don't handle your hair in a certain way it hits this 'wall'and won't grow past it. So I want to know from people out therewhat specific technique (combing, brushing, extra deep conditioning) theyhave to do in order to achieve the growth their looking for.Is this making sense?I'll start. I usually put my hair in a braid every day.I've noticed when I limit the amount of time it is in a braidI see more growth. Like when I don't sleep with one, or wearmy hair loose but confined during the day, etc..
